I would say this was a pretty good read for the most part. I didn’t read this series the first time it was out and I’m probably not going to read the original ones because I don’t feel like I need to.

Pros: Ellie was a really enjoyable character. I don’t read urban fantasy often so the story was very unique. I also enjoyed the Native American culture incorporation, it made me want to do my own research to learn more. While I don’t enjoy cliff hangers it did make me want to read the next one.

Cons: Collin and I officially have beef. His character I thought reminded me of like that dude bro from when you’re younger that is rude for no reason and thinks they are so great. I honestly didn’t think his character got better as the story went on. The writing seemed a bit juvenile to me but that’s probably because this story I would say is pretty new adult. There is limited spice which isn’t a big deal that’s just why I would say it’s new adult. I think there needed to be a bit more world building and I did get annoyed that Ellie was still on the fence about the curse until the very end.

Overall I plan to continue the series!

I loved this one. I love books about paranormal specially ones that are so well written. The character development is great, her world building is wonderful and the story line moves along well and is believable.
There are plenty of unexpected twists and turns in this book. This book pulled me in and kept my attention. I didn't want to put it down for any reason. And then the horrible thing happened, I read the last word, and now I must grab the other books in the series there is no other choice for me.
So, if you love a really well written book and you love paranormal then I would grab this one.

I received this ARC from Valentine PR for an honest review, all thoughts/ opinions below are my own.

I had a lil book slump, but I definitely regret not reading it any sooner because it kept me on my toes until the very end. This was my first urban fantasy and I loved it! It was a little slow paced but it’s worth it in my opinion. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series, because the ending had me shook!

I have been curious in the past about Roanoke. There is mystery surrounding it. The concept about this series is very intriguing that a curse was hiding Roanoke. Instantly, I was drawn into this story and the characters.

The first meeting between Ellie and Collin was intense. I could feel the shift in the air and the strong, magnetic pull these two shared with each other. Collin is a bit aloof, but I like this about him. He is the levelheaded one. Ellie keeps things interesting as she is a bit more throw caution to the wind.

Love that Ellie and Collin did not share an "instalove" attraction. They were more enemies to lovers/slow burn romance. After this cliffhanger ending, I am jumping right into book two.

The Curse Keepers by Denise Grover Swank
This book was an ARC. I have not read this author before; I was not disappointed! I love this book blends the history of the Lost colony with Roanoke, with fantasy. Ellie and Collin are the curse keepers, each comes from a line of keepers passed down through generations going back 400 years.
The gate that trapped the evil spirts and gods the last 400 years has been opened and it is up to Ellie and Collin to close it. Each has their own secrets, neither telling their truths to each other.
Their relationship grows as they work to get the relics, they need to close the gate.
Will they learn to trust each other to get the work done in 7 days?
The angst and intrigue throughout the book kept me turning the pages. The ending left me wanting more and I can’t wait until I can read the next book!

While this isn’t my normal genre, I decided to give this series a try. I was not disappointed!
This story has mystery, magic, friendship and love.
I have greatly enjoyed getting to know Ellie and Collin in this book. The quest these two strangers who are deeply connected must undergo is captivating!
DG Swank writes characters you can't help but love and root for as they face their challenges.

The Curse Keeps takes readers on an adventure through magic curse and ancient legends. This is a compelling story filled with mystery, romance, and suspense to keep readers captivated from the start

Ellie Lancaster finds herself thrown into a hidden world of curses and dark magic which she has tried to keep out of her life. I loved Ellie’s growth throughout the story. Also the chemistry between Ellie and Collin Dailey was there from the start. I loved the banter between the two.

Denise’s writing kept me engaged through the whole story. The pacing was well-executed and kept readers hooked until the very end. The attention to detail regarding the history of Roanoke island brings adds an extra layer of depth and authenticity to the story.

This is a great start to the series and I can’t wait to read more.

I especially loved the information about Roanoke island. When I lived in Virginia we always took trips to Roanoke Island and I loved learning about the history.

Omg love! It’s mythical fantasy, it’s adventurous, and it’s romance! This is the first fantasy-based book from Denise Grover Swank for me. I’ve read two others that were more crime mystery romances. But damn, she did not disappoint! The curse that brings them together and ultimately apart is the basis of their story and their lives. You root for them in relationship scenes and in closing the gates. But I was waiting and waiting for the hypothetical other shoe to drop with Collin! They are enemies and lovers, as Ellie doesn’t know if she can trust him. Then, in the end, your heart breaks, and she has a whole new problem to solve. The end is semi-TBC. The main problem with the gates is resolved, but Ellie is left with a new curse-related problem to handle.

I received The Curse Keepers in return for an honest review from the Valentine PR as part of the upcoming release.

Ellie grew up knowing one day she may have to save humanity but based on the past the odds were slim until a chance encounter with Collin another Curse Keeper sets everything in motion. Now they are on a timetable to save humanity and close the gate before it's to late and they can't stop what's been set in motion.

I liked Ellie a lot right from the start she's just a girl trying to do what she can to survive and when a chance encounter with Collin changes all of that. Collin took a little longer to grow on me but it's because he's so mysterious but he also was very frustrating. However, the more time they spend together they start forming this connection and neither one can deny the attraction to each other.

I haven't heard a lot of the Lost civilization of Roanoke except for a briefly touching on it in history and America Horror Story. I found the concept for the Curse Keerpers interesting that it's passed down from oldest child in each generation. I ended up devouring The Curse Keeper in just a couple of reading session I was invested in Ellies story and couldn't wait to see how the story would play out.

This is my first book by the author but I'm hooked D.G. Swank created a captivating adventure that kept me on the edge of my seat till the very last page. The author did a beautiful job creating a whirlwind story with just the right amount of romance. The characters are all lovely some you cheer on others you want to smack with the book. I really enjoyed the authors writing style it just flowed along so well. I'm looking forward to finishing this series and seeing what happens next. I need to check out her other series too.
