I was so into this book that I am pretty sure I growled at one point when my phone rang. However, I'm not sure how I feel about the overall message. Yes, we should all try and be nice and whatnot, we never know how our actions or words affect other people but to insinuate or accuse people for playing a part in their suicide is so wrong. I personally feel like if I had been the recipient of such tapes, it would have had a very negative impact on my life, probably the opposite of what the author intended. I think sending those tapes out was cruel and didn't Hannah see the irony in that? These people were cruel to me so I'm going to be cruel back, under the guise of explaining myself or helping them understand? But I guess you don't have to like or agree with Hannah. This book was so captivating that I read it in one sitting, but it left me feeling odd.

The author says he got the idea for this book at a museum while taking an audio tour. He was interested by the idea of a voice in his ear describing exactly what he was looking at, and it is an interesting idea. I just think he should have chosen a different subject or at least made it less vengeful. It made Hannah's story less sympathetic. At least for me.

I also had to listen to the audiobook as the italics or lack thereof was a different person speaking. Might have worked if it weren't switching every other sentence/paragraph. Made it difficult reading for me.

Belle morale donc.

Here is a book which was so hard for me to finish! I totally can't understand why it was so successful. The story could have been very pleasant to read, clever and unique if it hasn't been so badly written!
First of all, the present tense to tell the memories of Hannah becomes unbearable as the story goes.
Even if we disregard that: the story on itself and particularly the reasons of Hannah's suicide are childish and ridiculous. I smiled several times when I read these reasons: pathetic betrayals, human hypocrisy... Hannah was simply discovering life.
Is that enough for suicide? I don't think so...
To conclude, this book which, I believe, wanted to show the problems teenagers have to face and which can lead to suicide, only ridiculed this act and make the unstable teens pass for idiots who can commit suicide for a yes or a no.
What a beautiful moral.

It was OK. It was as un-depressing as you could probably make a book about teenage suicide. I think hearing the story from the dead girl's perspective worked. It's not a masterpiece but it was OK.
