Yet again, this book is SO GREAT but these children are SO TERRIBLE, I’m actually getting physically angry.

I forgot that this is an exact repeat of JP. Mad scientist, person trying to steal the dinosaurs, hot woman scientist, one sane scientist, chaos-theory researcher, two kids to tug at the heart strings. But you know, if a formula works, I say work it.

This book has a very different feel than the first. The animals aren’t quite as smart, Ian explains why, and it’s a whole bother island. Dodgson is back and more evil than I originally thought he was. I mean, wow. The new group consists of Ian Malcom, Sarah Harding, Dr. Levine, Dr. Thorne, Eddie, and two kids Arby and Kelly. All extremely smart in their own ways. Levine is an ignorant and stupid guy who annoys me throughout the book. A lot like Hammond in the original book. Sarah is a smart and strong woman who does her best to get everybody out alive. Kelly looks up to her and helps them to escape multiple situations. You know Ian, he’s smart and is constantly watching for when things go to hell in a hand basket. He knows it’s inevitable he’s just hoping to get data first. Thorne, along with Eddie, is the guy who created their trailer and bike and cage and all the other equipment they took. It was supposed to be field tested first but Levine went missing and they had to go straight to the island to save him. I do love one of the raptors, those these ones aren’t as organized or smart, one finds a chocolate bar and really likes it. It’s cute. I like the way he does his books but this one I had a harder time getting into. Too slow or maybe too much scientific detail for me. I don’t know. I read it for my son and he is now very happy so... :)

fun dinosaur adventure, not nearly as good as the first. Predictable plot and a few questions still left at the end that I felt were really lead up to but not resolved well

I thought this one was somehow just as good, if not better, than the first.

Ian becoming the central character was nice, with how much I loved him in the first book. Again, Michael Crichton, overall, balanced and built characters super well, constantly shifting from POVs but keeping the breakneck pace. There was another gnarly death for a villainous character that I appreciated, too.

I swear, Michael Crichton could write a textbook just about science and I’d read it as fast. I don’t know how he makes science so exciting; maybe it’s the topics but I think it is in his writing. He just does a phenomenal job.

The action was stellar again. You can absolutely tell he’s been involved with the movie business, because his books read like movies.

His short chapters make for a fun reading experience, too. You can read it in short bursts if you’re like me and read in between deliveries. Lot of page breaks as well.

I just really loved how the story was crafted again. Everything had its place, including stray candy wrappers, and the villain helps the first domino fall and then shit just hits the fan. Plus, the ending was super cool for me personally; I loved the last paragraph.

I’ll be excited to watch this movie again tonight because I remember thinking the film was underrated and, with how well they adapted JP, I hope it’s the same for this one.

It’s cool reading these books, because they have a darker tinge than the movies. It helps with the universe as a whole, knowing you can get so many different levels from each thing and they’re all so good.

I’m excited to read more of his stuff now that I’ve finished his Jurassic Tales.

I know everyone always says the book is better than the movie, but it is definitely the case with this book. I read the book long after seeing the movie and I wish they had stuck to the material. I almost dislike the movie completely after reading the book. Fun read with a lot of action and great story!

Thoroughly enjoyed this.

I grew up watching the movies, which are very entertaining, but the amount of scientific research that went into this book is incredible, the best parts left out of the movies.

In this case, I definitely enjoyed the book more.

This will always be one of my favorite books - and definitely my favorite by Crichton. I've lost count of how many times I've read this book - it never gets old and it's always something I can fall back on when nothing else I own looks intersting. What bothers me, though, is that the movie is so different from the book - the main difference being that the movie blows and the book is amazing.
