I am so fucking dead right now. I’m screaming my head off. This is definitely one of the best series I’ve ever read it’s sososossosoosososo good I can’t even put it into words.

So my favorite characters have always been Nik and Ella and I was soooooo glad that the banter between them and the other characters continued. They were absolutely hilarious as always and i missed it so much!
I love that Ezra and Nik became friends and that Hanna and Kady and Ella were a trio it was amazing.

What I didn’t trust was that hoe named Rhys? Like okay first of all if your name’s Rhys you are automatically not to be trusted, second of all w h o a he was bad news the entire time. idk i just didn’t like him and i feel like Asha deserves better. So I was not too big on their love story.

I think the thing with this too is that we get a whole book focusing on Kady and Ezra, then a whole other focused on Hanna and Nik, so we fully know all of them. But since they’re all together the page time has to be split plus the thing with Asha and Rhys that has to have page time dedicated to it, there wasn’t much development/it didn’t seem so good as the other couples cuz we have such a short time to meet them, and I was definitely loving the cast of characters from the previous books and their story more cuz I thought that it was more interesting.

But oooooooh Kady/Ezra were great as always, total power couple. But my favorite romantic relationship in this series is Hanna and Nik and I’m sooooooo glad they are doing great and they’re all good and fantastic WOO go them.

OKAY BUT ONE OF THE BEST THINGS is how we find out that Nik IS THE VIDEO FOOTAGE GUY and so that sassy ridiculous guy narrating the whole thing is ACTUALLY NIK.
And I got to wondering like “dang wtf he’s really narrating those kiss scenes like THAT” and “...wait in Gémina he was talking about how he looked really good with his shirt off and stuff...” and like...he’s fucking putting that shit??
But then he actually addresses it and that was legit the funniest line in the book I was dying of laughter ughhhhhhhhh it was just so good.

I’ve got a lot more to say on this but I can’t remember any of it right now and so I’m just gonna finish this right here, it’s long enough lol

Obsidio is the third and final book in The Illuminae Files. And honestly, it wasn't as easy to get into as the previous one. A part of that was because I'd been hoping that the book wouldn't introduce a new set of characters and instead just focus on the old ones. That didn't happen though, and there's a good reason for that.

Asha Grant and Rhys Lindstrom are on Kerenza IV. Yeah, the one that Kady and Ezra had escaped from. The same planet that they're having to go back to because it's the once place with a jump platform that can be used to finally get out of the Kerenza system. The role Asha and Rhys play is that not only do we get to know the situation at Kerenza through them and what the hell BeiTech troops are up to, we also see how they're planning to save themselves.

You see, the mobile jump platform that BeiTech has is currently not working. It needs hermium, from Kerenza's mines, to be functional again. So BeiTech has all the survivors of the colony either imprisoned or enslaved (minus the few thousand they executed because they were "non-essentials") to get the required hermium.

BeiTech's plan is that they're going kill the remaining Kerenza people as soon as the jump platform is functional, and then happily leave. Rhys is a BeiTech employee. Which is... yeah, I didn't know what to think either. BeiTech are the villains. But Rhys is supposed to be a protagonist? What? But you see a different side to the atrocities that were perpetrated by BeiTech. We already got the perspective of the ones who were attacked, right? Now we get a glimpse at the attackers too. Though, don't worry, the book doesn't try to justify BeiTech's actions.

Anyway, various plot descriptions aside, this was a great book. Yeah, more new characters gave me pause and I never grew as attached to them as the other five—we didn't spend as much time with them as with the others—but I liked them and I understood why they were a necessary addition.

The pace of the book is good, but not as good as Gemina's. The story is great. The authors didn't try to add much new stuff to it and focused on tying up the ends of the stories already started, which was a great idea. And the conclusion really works. It was more than satisfying and there was stuff that we found out about the identity of Analyst ID 7213-0089 that made me very happy.

This was a great way to end a series that is easily one of my favourites. And I'm excited about not only future collaborations between the authors, but also their individual works.

This was my second attempt at reading the third book in the Illuminae files by Amy Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. to be fair, I didn’t love either of the first two in the series. At each step I’ve felt that these books have fell short on their potential as multimedia novels. I also think, that I just read the instalments way too far apart from each other.
My first attempt at reading this book was back in 2022, and I got to the 48% mark before not continuing. Even that read through was probably awhile after I read the second book. I want to care enough to finish this trilogy, but I don’t. Holding this over 600 page book in my hands I just couldn’t really find any motivation or any attachment to the characters. None of them were really memorable enough for me to want to continue this.

Honestly, it was probably the first book that should’ve been a red flag. I was excited to read that one, and it ended up being subpar. I love Amy Kaufman, I’ve read another trilogy of hers that I loved and it was probably one of my favourite series when I was a teen. I haven’t read anything else by Jay Kristoff, and knowing the controversy around him, I’m not sure I ever will. I might one-day return to this and read the trilogy and I’m much shorter amount of time, but (and it’s a big but) I still feel that all three of these books have been ridiculously long longer than they needed to be to tell the story.

I don’t think it’s a bad trilogy. I think it’s a bad trilogy for Me.

4.5 Holy Smokes that was good.
You must read books 1-2 before this one. No spoiler review.
Mesmerizing audiobook read by a full cast with an extensive sound track-amazing. The story was filled with unexpected twists, heartbreak and exhilaration. I felt tired after finishing, like I just went through the trauma with them.
I love this author she develops her characters so completely. I think about them after putting the book down, hope for them, cheer them on, feel the void when one dies. At one point a character died, a selfless death, I teared up while earlier I was inner screaming for their death.
The ending was left with a voice from the past. Could there be another book ? I think so maybe a spin off ? I'd like to see more of this voice's character.
