The art isn't my favorite, but the characterization is perfect. Five easy stars.

This batman comic is about how batgirl lives a life impeded by her gender and how she rises about the stereotypes set in her life to be the hero she knows she is deep inside, to prove to herself that she is more than the smart daughter of commissioner Gordan.

The building romance between her and Robin is cute.

The badguy is dull. I have never been a fan of mothman.
adventurous fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character
Loveable characters: Complicated
Diverse cast of characters: Yes

Algo machista y simplón en algunos momentos, pero excelente en todo lo demás.

I hate the 5 star rating system because I loved this book but I'm super stingy about perfect ratings. There are boring lulls with things like Killer Moth trying to be respected and the like, but otherwise it gives us the early career of one of the best characters in DC, Barbara Gordon. Her commitment, potential, and most of all personality. Quips about oracles, becoming crippled, and a fake Joker with a gun at the end were equal parts cringe-worthy and delightful. I definitely wouldn't mind an Elseworld story where Babs never became Oracle. As awesome as Oracle is, this is pretty sweet too.. And she rock that Batsuit...

Great take on the Batgirl origin. The story was fun and the art was really interesting. I wish they would have made this a regular series!

I really liked the spartan-ness of this art. There was room to breathe. Far too many comics have to fill up every square inch of space with muscled bodies or intricate landscapes.
I also liked the story. The foreshadowing was solid - making me feel like I FINALLY understand what the hell DC is doing here.
I take a star off because I found the ending rushed. It seems unlikely that Batman would call her in for the 'gauntlet' just because she made one good escape decision in the field. Her tryout was a few panels long, and she made no mistakes, which I find hard to believe. And I was surprised at how much would be revealed to her just because she proved herself those couple of times. Up to then, they really had me.
Overall it's light, fun, jaunty. Just lke Batgirl herself.

I think this is a really fun and well done take on Barbara Gordon's origins. Killer Moth is an entertainingly pathetic villain, and the introduction of Firefly later in the book adds an edge to the book that created an interesting dynamic. Scott Beatty and Chuck Dixon's take on the characters feels evergreen, even if some parts of the book feel dated (though usually in a charming way).

Marcos Martin's pencils bring a lot of personality to the book, especially in the small panel to panel moments. Javier Rodriguez's colours also brought the perfect tone to the story and paired perfectly with the story and the art.

I love seeing the background of superheroes. I've been thinking a lot about how annoying it is that she's called "Batgirl" rather than "Batwoman" seeing as she is a woman not a child. But that was even addressed in this comic, with her specifically stating that she would prefer "Batwoman" but society is sexist and chose the name for her. It was nice/terrible seeing her struggles as a woman trying to be strong and tough portrayed at least somewhat realistically (you know...minus the superhero aspect).

Nice ending and I'll be looking forward to reading more about Batgirl.
