Fun story with cool art loaded with nice bright colors which is different from your typical Bat family story.
Fun. I love that she's a librarian, but not that she hates being one so much.
If I am being completely honest with myself this would be more of a 3.5 but the things I loved about it outweigh the bad so 4 stars it is.
The villains were weak; I would have preferred that Batgirl dealt with someone a lot more mythos and personal connection than Killer Moth and Firefly on her first adventure as a caped crusader. I also was never a fan of the Barbara/Dick pairing so most of their interaction fell flat to me. The overall plot wasn't that interesting either if I am being completely honest, but there were things that I loved.
The Batgirl/Black Canary team up! Birds of Prey for the win! I loved that this hinted at what was to come from them and their working relationship. It was simply so great to see them kicking ass together. Barbara's characterization was also pretty spot on, even if I think that her motivations for being Batgirl could have been flashed out more.
The other shoutouts in the book were great; all the way from her future as the great Oracle to the torture endured at the hands of the Joker. I mean, just look at this particular Joker intro:
If this doesn't scream Killing Joke then I don't know what does.

I can't believe how much I enjoyed this. This was a perfect blend of story and art and another fine blending of rehashing and retconning. Chuck Dixon, who used to have a huge hand in many of the Bat books, shows why as he pens a terrific character and setting. The artwork by Marcos Martin is so spot on its hard to put into words. The early tales of young Barbara's career along with foreshadowing of future events is phenomenal. I would recommend this to anyone. Great stuff!
This revisiting of Barbara Gordon's origin story is a ton of fun, and even includes several (somewhat weird) references to her future as Oracle, rather than Batgirl. This a fun run of issues, and a lot of that fun is brought to you by penciller Marcos Martin, whose clean compositions and retro style give Batgirl the kick you remember from the 1960's show.
4.75. Loved rereading my favorite Batgirl story. Ever timeless and endless fun. This is staple for any DC fan’s collection.
