Batgirl: Year One by Scott Beatty

4.0

I really liked the spartan-ness of this art. There was room to breathe. Far too many comics have to fill up every square inch of space with muscled bodies or intricate landscapes.
I also liked the story. The foreshadowing was solid - making me feel like I FINALLY understand what the hell DC is doing here.
I take a star off because I found the ending rushed. It seems unlikely that Batman would call her in for the 'gauntlet' just because she made one good escape decision in the field. Her tryout was a few panels long, and she made no mistakes, which I find hard to believe. And I was surprised at how much would be revealed to her just because she proved herself those couple of times. Up to then, they really had me.
Overall it's light, fun, jaunty. Just lke Batgirl herself.
