This was a fun, colorful book with distinctive illustrations and a more distinctive narrative.  Many picture books offer a symmetric narrative--children leave home, they return.  They go on an adventure, they return.  Yet here, the brother and sister are forced to evacuate their home until flooding season is over.  When they realize that they've forgotten their beloved pet tortoise back at their old house, they go on an adventure to rescue him.  After their mission is complete, they're on their way home, they realize their parents will likely be upset with them, and the story ends!  It's unlike any other picturebook from the United States, and with good cause, considering it's Brazilian!

It's a great look at another culture and their storytelling preferences and narrative, and a fantastic look at a different way of life and the struggles in front of them.  Great for grades 1-3!

Cute children's book about two siblings in Brazil who realize that their pet turtle was left behind when the family moved. They sneak out at night and row along the Tapajos river to rescue their beloved pet.

Beautiful Illustrations!

The Story starts out slowly, but wraps up with a cute ending. The Illustrator did a fantastic job. It is adorable!

Great to explain different cultures

A great kids story to use to explain about different cultures and how people live in other countries or rural areas.

Actually, it's a book about children

I'm an adult but I find this book fascinating. Thanks to Amazon's World Book Day, I find this book and get some insights about how people lives in other side of the world.
People who don't live in big city tend to live by following the nature's rhytm instead of changing the nature to their liking and I find it beautiful.

Honestly, I thought this book was charming. The story was engaging, and I learned something about a region of the Amazon I'd never heard of. The artwork was very cute. This was a free book Amazon gave out among their 2020 National Book Day freebies. I originally thought "I'm not going to download a kids' book", but then I downloaded it anyway because it was free and I like free. And I'm glad I did!

Winter has arrived, and it's time for the people of a Tapajós riverside community to move for the rainy season. This picture book follows along with a day in the life of a young boy who lives in the Amazon forest as his family relocates for the season. I find the art unusual but charming. The story itself is simple, cute, and edifying to those who, like me, don't know about this aspect of the Amazonian populações ribeirinhas.
