Beautiful illustrations but I thought the story was very basic.

While I expected a bit more from the story, overall it was plain and simple, but nice enough. Now, what really made the book enjoyable, though, was the art! I think the art style was simple, but it fit the story and the colours were really gorgeous. The vibrant greens, burnt oranges and light beiges and yellows painted a beautiful picture of the environment, made the book visually enjoyable and upped the book's rating.

Cute Story

The artwork is fun, filled with bright colors. The adventure of the siblings is cute, although even a children's book could a little more detail. Eight weddings in a day? Cool. What would the weddings look like? If everyone moves when it rains, what is their new home like and how is it different than the home they left? If a book leaves you wishing for more, that's a good thing, but it also left me feeling that I didn't get much in the way of story. So, back to the art. I liked the art.

Life among the Tapajos, a river connected to the Amazon, is much different than life inland. Caua and Inae get to school by boat, watch out for crocodiles, and have to move with their family once the winter rains set in. But this year when their family moves downriver and inland, Caua realizes that they forgot to bring their pet tortoise Titi - can they save her? This is an engaging story about life in a rural community that's very different from life in America. Young travelers will be fascinated. Pair with Child of St. Kilda for another engrossing picture book about life (including fauna, modes of transportation, and unique community) in a remote part of the world.

Wonderful book about families that live on the Amazon river. It covers how they live on the river bank in the summer and then move inland away from the river banks in the winter.

Colorful!

The Art work is fantastic! Colorful, short and simple for very young kids to understand. It’s a simple story about kids and how they live in another part of the world.

Entertaining and informative

It left my kid with more questions and the comment that it was too short. Not a bad thing though; especially with the information in the afterword answering most of his questions.
