A feel good, no muss love story.

Conner and Jamie were once friends as teens, and while Conner took his opportunity to leave his small town life in Oregon, Jamie is still stuck there, mostly out of circumstance and habit. Jamie doesn’t hesitate to bring Conner his inheritance, eager to experience something new.

These two quickly fall back into their easy friendship. Jamie is ready to indulge in all that L.A. has to offer, and he dives right in. Conner finds Jamie laid back, endearing, and not to mention cute. This tests Conner’s “anything goes” attitude, as his attraction to Jamie pushes the boundaries that define his sexuality. Conner’s zest for trying new things sets both he and Jamie on fire.

Understandably, Jamie doesn’t want to push Conner too hard, as he experiences his first foray into same sex shenanigans. He doesn’t want to get too attached because surely it’s just a fleeting thing, right? And Conner, never having had a stable home life, definitely doesn’t want the pressure of commitment since he doesn’t want to disappoint anyone.

This was of course sweet and smexy (though I do think the authors dropped the ball on the potential for fully fleshing out first time explorations). Not as heavy as the first book, I’m still always grateful for minimal relationship angst. Conner and Jamie only need to think hard about what they want and to go after it despite the risks. Their reward? Turning their strong attraction into something meaningful and long lasting.

Fun read that isn't really anything special but enjoyable nevertheless.

Content warnings include: sex on-page, very cis-normative language with some statements that may be harmful to trans readers

Now this kinda wasn't what I expected from the blurb. I thought the main plot would focus on a road trip with the characters instantly having sex with each other. That's really not what happens, but the book is still a romance so it's wasn't like this was an unpleasant surprise- there just wasn't a road trip (or no focus on road trips) and it takes quite a while until the characters end up in bed together.

I also somehow got the impression that Conner would be in denial about not being entirely straight, which luckily wasn't the case. He describes himself as sexually fluid from the start and there isn't an ounce of homophobia or toxic masculinity in him.
Generally I was delighted by how there was no homophobia in this book, aside from Jamie being cautious about public displays of affection, which he is used to hiding in his small hometown.

One part of the plot focuses on both of the protagonists' parents, and how their relationships affect their sons. Conner's parents are in an open relationship, very open about everything in general, and are often called hippies. Jamie's mother has MS, and his dad owns the garage Jamie works at.
I liked this part of the book, about these different families getting a big closer.

3.5 stars rounded up!

This one wasn't quite as strong as the other books I've read in this series. Now I liked Conner and Jamie, both as individual characters and as a couple.

But that's just it. I liked them, but I didn't love them. They didn't wow me. The chemistry was fine, but it wasn't amazing. It didn't pull me in, they didn't pull me in. I liked them and I liked their scenes, but I didn't love them.

I enjoyed Conner from the first book so I was excited to read his story. Unfortunately his story didn't excite me too much. It was all very....okay. Likable, for sure, but not like amazing. I rounded up because it was good, it was well written and I did enjoy these two together.

But I had to go with 3.5 stars because of me liking them, but not loving them. There wasn't enough there between them and the story for me to love it. It was slow at times as well and not much happened.

Jamie is there in LA for a few weeks, he and Connor fall for each other, then he goes back, they determine they want to be together, and Connor goes back to their small town to fight for Jamie - which is sweet, but he doesn't have to fight all that much.

Like the only real conflict was just making the choice to be together. It was obvious Jamie wouldn't stay in his hometown and it was obvious Connor was going to choose to be with Jamie and get over his few hang ups. It wasn't very surprising or exciting.

I did appreciate the lack of drama, though. They didn't manufacture drama for drama's sake, which is a nice reprieve in romance books. Still think real conflict can happen without it being manufactured. And it didn't have to be dramatic either, just hurdles they had to work through. Why present potential problems if they're not really gonna be problems in the end?

So overall I liked this, I enjoyed it at times, and it was a sweet, enjoyable story. But there just wasn't enough for me to love it, there was something missing, and the chemistry wasn't as good as it could have been. The sex scenes also left a lot to be desired. They weren't as steamy as they could have been. So I liked this....I just didn't love it.

5 stars for the audiobook

3.75 for the story

Tyler Stevens and Iggy Toma's narration kept me entertained, i was not able to finish book 1, the narration was so bad and could not bring myself to read the book, maybe i will someday. So glad they changed the narrators.

As for the story, it was sweet, cute and angst free, just a simple story about two friends falling in love. The smexy times were good, but i still felt there was something missing.

The Mc's were likable, I adored Jamie he was such a sweetheart and Conner's carefree and easygoing attitude was amazing.
