I am not even going to attempt to write a review for this book that surpasses that of Jonathan Raban for 'London Magazine' in 1973: "No hood or cop could be as unbuttoned, as obscene and sensitive and open, as Hunter, motherfucking his way over the typewriter keys like an attentive secretary to his own subconscious."

It was the same thing page after page, just different wording

Fear and Loathing is essentially the template for the grimy, hedonistic west coast novels of the 70s-early 2000s. It was an enjoyable read and a whacky pointless road-trip story that I’m glad I read but probably won’t think much about in the future.

Idk what to make of this book tbh. It’s labeled at Non-Fiction/Memoir but also it’s so drug addled that it also a work of fiction at the same time. The author is very honest about being a pretty bad guy, and his friend too, but also seems to be aware that he’s fucked him self with his habit. It’s a strange story that doesn’t come off very comedic to me personally as I know the movie is a comedy. It more interesting perspective of its time I guess and it does reveal interesting aspects of American life that people don’t really want to think about.
