It was a fairly enjoyable and easy read. I quite liked the writing and I’m intrigued to read more from Thompson…but I wasn’t exactly blown away by the book. There’s not really much story and there’s not exactly character development.

I’ve never managed to see the film and I’m interested as I this felt like a book which would make a good film.

A reporter and an attorney's journey through Las Vegas fuelled by nothing but an endless collection of drugs, in search of the elusive American Dream. It's really cool to see explanations of this drug addled mind in such a "articulate" manner. The story isn't much of a story with many dips into psychoses and delusions taking many hostages on the way. The search for the American Dream isn't fulfilling either, but it's the rickety journey that matters in the end.

Funny and introspective story, highlighting drug culture post 60s America. Also highlights the age old story of authorities and especially police having no clue about drugs. Also touches on the American dream in an interesting way
