This book was okay! It was a middle of the lane romance. The characters were there and had somewhat of a personality. They were enjoyable, but they weren't very developed. The plot was also okay! It was kind of lackluster, but it was still there. This book could've gained an extra star if the romance wasn't so bad. The main characters have NO chemistry with each other, other than when they're roleplaying.
Even then it didn't really make sense. I think Jen could've taken the liberty to make the romance more developed, considering that this is a romance.
Again, it was an okay book.

A cute story in a terrific setting featuring a delightful set of characters. While I've never been to a Renaissance Faire, I am familiar with the concept and it was fun to be brought into this world due to Emily's involvement. I typically prefer my romances to be told via dual perspective, but seeing everything through Emily's eyes really worked since she was so new to the event and it helped me understand the full impact of her negative first impression of Simon. The Ren Faire atmosphere and the different personas adopted by its participants adds an interesting layer of complexity to the tale: is Simon really falling for Emily or is it merely Captain Ian Blackthorne flirting with Emma to further enhance the experience for the guests? In addition to the romance, I liked the ongoing plot of Emily seeking a place to belong within this small town and building relationships with new friends as well as strengthening existing ones with her family. The major conflict between the pair is a bit silly, yet the ending is rather sweet and I wouldn't mind reading more from this series to extend my time in Willow Creek.

I have always loved going to the Renaissance Festival, which only made me more interested to check this book out when it was offered with Book of the Month. I really loved Emily as a main character and her willingness to just help out her sister in every way she possibly could. She was an instant hit with me and made me root for her the whole story. Simon was also a great love interest that I felt really matched well with Emily's character. My only complaint with him is he doesn't always take in other people and tends to trample over others. This did get better by the end but really frustrated me until he started to be less of a jerk ;). I loved this book and will definitely be picking up the rest of the books in the series when they come out!

WHEW I enjoyed the hell outta THIS! Just the right balance between resolvable conflict and reasonable storytelling, a hot romance (even if straight, sadly), and AN EPILOGUE that didn't feel corny. Ten outta ten would recommend. I'm excited for the next two books set in this world!

I've been in such a depressive funk lately and decided to pick this up on a whim and I am so glad that I did. I was so charmed by the book, I loved the renaissance faire setting and I really enjoyed seeing Emily and Simon's wall breaking down. Overall it was a really solid book, I will mention that there seemed to be little diversity though and I think that could hurt the other books in the series.
