Rachel Marin is running from her dark past and trying to protect her kids while doing so. Because of the pain her family has experienced she has trained herself to be physically and mentally fit and fights for the underdog. When a former politician winds up dead there is speculation of suicide but Rachel knows better. Rachel reaches out to the local police department informing them that this was a murder – but instead of taking Rachel at her word, the police start to question how Rachel knows what she knows and why she keeps turning up at every corner of their investigation.

This was such a fun read for me! I accidentally read the second book before reading the first book and after finishing both, I liked the first one better (though maybe had I read them in order I would have enjoyed the second one just as much). I think Rachel Marin is such a badass with a kind heart who just wants the best for her children and the people around her who have showed her compassion. Though sometimes she is frustrating, by not just telling the police what really happened to her, I felt for her character throughout the entire story. I especially liked the ending where Rachel finally got a little bit of a light at the end of the tunnel for her future. Overall, this was a five star read for me and I would definitely recommend it – and make sure to get the second one in the series as well “A Stranger at the Door.”

I downloaded this to my Kindle as a part of the first reads that Amazon offers monthly. I enjoyed this thriller. I think what I liked about the book is that I liked not only the amateur "detective" Rachel Marin, but I also liked how the police detectives were portrayed, in other words likeable and very good at their jobs.

The last time I read a crime novel, I thought, I wonder if there are any feminist crime novels? Because I wanted women to be more than dead plot devices.

Hide Away comes closer to being feminist. The lead character, Rachel Marin, is quite kick ass: she boxes and does strength training; she can do complex maths in her head. There's a lesbian couple and they are normal. A young girl is encouraged in her story writing and ambition to be a writer. I realise I'm setting the bar for a feminist crime novel quite low.

There were a couple of things that mean this is 4 not 5 stars. Quite frequently Rachel Marin is referred to by other characters as 'that Marin woman' - I think it is supposed to be derogatory and express that the speaker is annoyed at her, but really who speaks like this?! It's rude and weird and used too often. Also, there are some small plot holes and what I'm going to call continuity errors.

All in all, enjoyable.

Thank You

I just want to say a thank you to the author for writing such a badass female lead without turning it into sexual or downright disrespectful. I've already preordered the next book which is something I rarely do.

This was one of those "kindle on the floor-up waaaay past when you should probably be asleep-finish in one sitting" type of reads.

Rachel is a badass that moves her family to town in IL after her husband is murdered. While in this town- the former mayor is murdered and Rachel helps 2 detectives to solve the case.

This was a good one. I see why it had all the good reviews it did. Definite page turner and has some Stillhouse Lake vibes.

I loved this thriller about a single mom out for revenge. She’s my new hero and I’m excited this is a series.

I selected this title randomly and listened to the audio version from Kindle Unlimited. I became a big fan of Rachel Marin, a woman hiding from her horrid past who also seems to be in the middle of a murder investigation in a small town. She's got kids but she kicks butt. She's a widow but she may be interested in a cop that she keeps bumping into. Right, and there's a murder investigation that is going on and she's the only one who seems to be able to get a lead. Fun read!
