Rachel Marin is running from her dark past and trying to protect her kids while doing so. Because of the pain her family has experienced she has trained herself to be physically and mentally fit and fights for the underdog. When a former politician winds up dead there is speculation of suicide but Rachel knows better. Rachel reaches out to the local police department informing them that this was a murder – but instead of taking Rachel at her word, the police start to question how Rachel knows what she knows and why she keeps turning up at every corner of their investigation.

This was such a fun read for me! I accidentally read the second book before reading the first book and after finishing both, I liked the first one better (though maybe had I read them in order I would have enjoyed the second one just as much). I think Rachel Marin is such a badass with a kind heart who just wants the best for her children and the people around her who have showed her compassion. Though sometimes she is frustrating, by not just telling the police what really happened to her, I felt for her character throughout the entire story. I especially liked the ending where Rachel finally got a little bit of a light at the end of the tunnel for her future. Overall, this was a five star read for me and I would definitely recommend it – and make sure to get the second one in the series as well “A Stranger at the Door.”
