Bobbie Faye's (kinda, sorta, not exactly) Family Jewels by Toni McGee Causey

Poor Bobbie Faye, she can never get a break! She's got even more people after her in this book than the last one. This time everyone wants her to find a huge stash of missing diamonds. She knows they want her to find them because as soon as she steps outside her work (where there's a gunfight going on) she's kidnapped and driven around the block as her family's threatened if she doesn't help. As soon as she's dropped off another group kidnaps her, does the exact same thing, then rinse and repeat as it happens again! She's also trying to figure out why she's appearing on a security tape shooting and killing a jeweler. We get to meet more of her family and the love triangle between her, Cam (ex-boyfriend with a lot of history) and Trevor (new boyfriend) develops a lot more. I really enjoyed finding out who was the mastermind behind the murder, I didn't suspect them at all. Can't wait to read the next book, this author's hard to put down once I start.

I like the Bobbie Faye series, even though it's got some drawbacks. I think Contraband Queen bit is a little overplayed, and the friend with the magic shop's storyline is usually something I skim over, but for the most part, these books are great. They're funny; they've got competing drool-worthy guys & wacky best friends with access to whips; and Bobbie Faye herself who can't seem to catch a break and wades into bad luck like it's the local swimming hole. Her adventures are fast paced and extreme, and they make me chuckle, so I'll catch up with the next book when I see it at the bookstore, for sure.

This books was simultaneously hilarious and thrilling. You can't predict what Bobbie Faye is going to get up to next, and I genuinely didn't figure out (and perhaps didn't care so much) about whodunit until the denouement. I was much more interested in what BF was going to do or say next. Having two hunky specimens of manhood doesn't hurt the plot either.

While most of the plot was too insane to be believable, it was still very enjoyable. Best of all were those little bits of humor thrown in that perhaps non-southerners might miss. (I can imagine my LSU alumn father's horror if I had gone to 'Bama!)

Even though I picked this book up without realizing it was part two in a series, I didn't need the first book to understand what was going on. However, after reading this book, I am definitely going to pick up the other books in the series. I hope they are equally funny.

Causey's second attempt with Bobbie Faye does not disappoint. However, I don't think it quite lives up to the first one. A little less time is spent on the action and running around (just a little, there's still a lot of action) and more time is spent developing the relationship she has with Trevor and Cam. There are also a ton of characters in this book, sometimes a little difficult to keep track of. And I didn't laugh out loud quite as much as the first one. With all that being said, I was still highly entertained and liked the ending. I won't give too much away, but we find out a little more about best friend Nina at the end of book. Hmm.....perhaps we're setting up for a third installment?

Another Bobbie Faye book--funny, dangerous, thrill-a-minute capers in the Louisiana bayou. Clearly set up for a sequel.

I borrowed the Large Print version of this book from the library and finally got a chance to read it while out at a friend's camp for the long weekend.

Some of the formatting of the book drove me insane. For example: ... running away from the house, frantic. the guards shoved... on most pages periods were placed in where a comma should be with the following new 'sentence' starting with a lowercase. This happens on almost every page of the book.

Loved the storyline though and I'll definitely read more of her books.
