I think what I disliked for this was the transcription of events, it felt choppy at times.

I guess I would just say this didn’t age well. He was clearly trying to take a dryer approach because it was supposed to be taken seriously, but knowing that it isn’t real, it just felt like it was lacking and could have gotten a lot from just being written in a more descriptive or narrative way. Not sure if that is quite right, but it just didn’t stand out to me in any way really.
Ok, I knew this was a made up story going in, but I love horror so figured I’d read this so called “non-fiction classic”. It started out creepy but quickly became monotonous, not to mention the lackluster writing.
I never say this but...the movie was better.

The beginning pulled me in because it's supposedly a true story, but by halfway I was begging for it to be done.
What people, faced with these disturbances and goings on in their house would stay and put up with it that long? It's absurd.
Also, if I had a dollar for every time the phrase "112 Ocean Avenue" was used, I wouldn't need to work for a month. I get it, we need to know their address! But it's going to be in my head for life now.

I watched the film and enjoyed it, but after reading the book and how it goes into details and accounts of what happened from different perspectives I wish I had of read the story first.
This was a creepy book. I am not sure if I really believe all of it, but since I do believe in ghosts I could see proven patterns. Like, I could easily see if there was something there that caused the one guy to kill his family. There is also Amy Allen saying that parts of a living person can be left behind after events, so I could also see a bit of Ronnie left in the house.
Either way, definitely creepy.

Pretty unsettling stuff. Gotta be honest I really don't like George Lutz lol but I do genuinely believe really scary stuff happened in that house. The way they run away is telling. Great read for horror fans
I really wanted this to be scary but it just wasn't. Regardless of whether or not you think the things in the book actually happened, this was really disappointing - full of details, told in chronological order, but without anything to make you feel... anything.... beyond being annoyed that the family stayed as long as they did. Two stars because I read this so quickly - I kept waiting for it to get scary, so I flew through it.
