This is a solid intro into the world and history of MLMs. I listened to her podcast (somewhat) and found this was similar, though I honestly don't know what was from the show and what was new and was was repeat from other MLM stuff I have watched. It was a fast read and good on audio, but nothing ground breaking for me here.

This was a super quick read. It had a lot going on and sometimes too much (not sure we need Jordan Manning to want a man so badly) but overall it was a good enough time. I liked some of the twists and figured out a lot of the story, but not everything.

This book is interesting as a look at the right wing political mechanism that is attacking schools. I wish the book wasn't so focused on white parents. There are "School Moms" who are Black, queer, urban, disabled, Latina, etc. and this book ignores them and their activism for white suburban swing state mom. The book felt extremely narrow because of the narrow focus. A richer book would have the right wing and progressive approaches to show a more holistic version of what is happening in schools in America.

This book is so inventive the form does the heavy lifting. It’s a smart idea carried throughout. The writing is really good and it’s getting at huge ideas of identity. The final argument fell apart a bit for me but overall very good.

I love this play so much. I have read it so many times. It has one of the most fucked up endings in all of Shakespeare. It is one of the most relevant of his plays today. I love how he tackles devotion, capital punishment, hypocrisy, and the plight of women. So much to say.

I really liked this book. Jackson's writing is so good. His voice is clear and he finds ways to inject humor and wonder into his own story. Sometimes it get a bit too meandering. That slowed me down in a way where I would disconnect a bit from the text. It is an incredibly ambitious book which pays off (mostly).

The first two thirds of this book are extremely good. The amount of research that went into this book and came out as incredibly readable and engaging storytelling is such an impressive feat. The book is evocative and explains so much of what happens to people when they die. It felt very clear the authors (and their editor) we're quite sure how to end the book and the third part went on too long and muddied some of the book. I still really enjoyed it but wish it had stayed as rooted in it's mission through to the end.

Tommy Orange is an extremely skilled writer. There are moments and sentences of emotional connection in this book that are so wonderful. Some great imagery. He also has some incredibly smart social commentary and biting observations and musings. I loved reading that. The pacing in the novel was a little slow in spots and too fast in others, it wasn't quite right. I also think the book moves into a preciousness that I really didn't care for. The middle third was really my favorite stuff.

I think my original assessment holds up. On a we inc read I’m more impacted by the way young Black poor kids are over exposed to violence and sex and how Thomas depicts this without hitting us over the head. Also his love of words and repetition is more present this time around.

A really solid debut and work of climate fiction. The book is short and moves through a year pretty quickly. I liked the premise a lot. Sometimes it drifts into a bit of predictable land. It needs a little more oomph.
