I generally love Margaret George's books and her interpretation of history and historical figures. This was not my favorite but it was good. Her attempt to depict Nero as a boy who became embroiled in the political hotbed that was Rome came across well. I understood, based on her telling of events, how Nero came to be one of the most despised leaders of the Roman Empire but I still felt like it was slightly contrived to shove the whole Grecian/artistic/sportsman side into the mix. We all have hobbies and passions and surely Nero was no different, but sometimes it seemed to ring as slightly inauthentic. That's just my opinion and I hope you read and judge for yourself. For my part, I much preferred "Mary, Called Magdalene" to this one.
Great read, as ever.
This book was a bit slow to start, at least for me, but when it picked up i couldn't put it down.

Fun read
It was fun to see a bit of Jamie and Ian as they were in the beginning. Not bad for a bit of backstory, or literary snacks, as the author calls them.

Was a great read, if somewhat predictable in the end. Still didn't keep me from trying to get to the end as fast as possible.
It was OK as a narrative from Victoria's perspective. However, I took a bit of issue with how she was portrayed in regards to her "personality changed" when she married Albert. Maybe it's accurate or maybe it's a product of a less progressive way of thinking than today. Regardless, it was still interesting.
