This one was an interesting read. I loved the narrative and the descriptive language painted a great picture in my mind. However, there were parts that (because for whatever reason I wasn't paying attention or I thought it vague in the book) that were never fully resolved for me. I'm the type of person that likes a clear, firm resolution even if it's an unhappy one.

This book was a sad testament to the thinking surrounding the LGTBQ community at the beginning of the century. For me, having been part of the military community, it also struck me as heart-breaking at how men of that generation were treated if they didn't want to immediately lay down their life for their country.

Proper English Fiction.

No wonder the author won a prize for this one; it is the essence of Englsnd and all that a career in Service meant for some.

As my first Neil Gaiman book I thought it was fantastic. The fantastical elements are so wonderful I wished it would have been a bit longer and more fleshed out. O eralln a great read.

This was a very well thought-out YA adventure/fantasy novel. I loved her Hunger Games series and this one did not disappoint. The only real "criticism" I would have is that the concept was so intriguing that I would have wished for it to be longer and a bit more expanded. That would, of course, potentially take it out of the realm of YA but it was a great read as-is.

Great insight into how he got where he is. I listened to it on audiobook, which he narrates, and I think that was better than reading the book. Some readers have complained that it's a bit boring so listening to the audiobook may alleviate that slightly.

It was pretty good. She had some insightful tidbits but as a whole seemed somewhat disjointed. In parts she was heart-breakingly brutal and in others her comedy seemed to fall a bit flat. I listened to it on audiobook, which she narrated for the most part (she had a whole cast of actors come in to help her), and added some more emotion to the words where just reading them may have fallen short of the intended nuance. Not a bad commuter book.

This is a great book! There's very little dialogue but it shows a loving relationship about a boy who just wants to be a mermaid and his grandmother that helps him. Fantastic illustrations, too!
