I have seen a few people saying this book isn't action packed but I like that it is slower paced. Things were getting a bit crazy in Sookie's world! Like the title suggests, this is all about family and not just Sookie getting to know her newly found relatives. Eric and Bill also have some family time. For those that like their actions, there's still some but it's good book to move the characters along a bit.
Yes, this book is different from The Dante Club, but that doesn't make it a bad book. Obviously it is very well researched and I feel it is written more in the style of one of Poe's mysteries. The whole thing also reminded me a bit of Poirot! Not action packed and takes quite a lot of concentration but rewarding for Poe and historical fiction fans.
A bit predictable, I'm sure someone has tried to sabotage Tempe's career a few times already. It didn't feel over simplified like the last book did but the series is starting to lose its sparkle.
I like the 'other side of the story' style of adding extra books to the saga. A quick and easy read.
When I started reading, I thought oh no, he's using lots of unusual words for the sake of it. I only carried on because it was a book group read and I'm glad I did. The first two stories bored me a bit but by the middle it started to click into place and I especially enjoyed the future parts. There's obviously a lot to think about but seems to be a lot of work and I'm still left not completely understanding it all. Hence why I've given it 3 stars instead of 4. A book that doesn't grab me in the first 100 pages usually just doesn't get finished (and then it would have gotten a 1).
A lovely easy going and humourous read. I think Betsy might be one of my favourite vampires, just so unlikely. Definitely will be reading more in the series.
The myth of Atlas retold in the most enjoyable writing style. From the start I was hooked by Winterson's description of the flirtation between mother earth and the sea and loved her twist to the myth. Short and sweet.
Certainly a gripping read. I am a fan of natural disaster type movies though so this was a perfect book for me. The addition of the mental patient and the religious fanatics just made it an original and thought provoking thriller.
Another fun and super quick read. Love the fact that ditzy and vain girls can be vampires too...they don't all have to be tough and broody.
The Betsy/Sinclair relationship is typical of most vampire ones, there's always someone holding back but I don't think that forms the basis for the books. A lot of people seem to have complained about swearing and sex...but I have come to expect this from vampires! It didn't seem to bad to me anyway.
Not as great as the first but hasn't put me off. It's nice to have something that can be read ina few hours.

It all goes a bit sci-fi for Vicki, Henry and Mike in the 4th book in this series. The love triangle is in full force too. I wasn't expecting the ending (it made me double check I hadn't read the last book in the series by mistake).
