Some parts of this book were really great. But a lot of it ended up being more teen drama than demonic Carrie possession vibes (which is more what I was expecting from the cover).
The 80s exorcism scene was great at the end. But they KILLED THE DOG which basically ruins everything always. And I really felt bad for Abby the whole time- she really gets no payoff.
I think I wanted this to have more Scooby Doo Stranger Things vibes where a group of teens could rely on each other even if the adults in the town didn’t believe in possession. And while well- written, this book wasn’t like that at all.

DNF on page 230. I have never been a star crossed lover and I never loved The Notebook. I know many people loved this book, but it is not for me at the moment.
I LOVED the side characters in this book- Buttons and Rat in particular. But I sadly wasn’t as fond of the main characters and that made all the difference.
This book had an interesting magic system and politics, but I don’t think this story did a great job of letting either of them reach their full potential.

3.5⭐️ only because it took her SO DAMN LONG to believe in magic holy moly.
