Harry Potter and the Cursed Child - Parts I and II by Jack Thorne

Second time reading this, the 2-star rating still stands. I love Harry Potter, but I just can't support this book/script. It's so incredibly bad... the only reason I gave it a 2 instead of a 1 is because of Scorpius and the last scene.
I've heard many times that this is something you have to see live, and so I guess I'll reserve my (full) judgement until I'm able to do so.

3.5 stars. **SPOILERS**

I enjoyed the story overall, and I couldn't stop reading it, so that's saying something. Things I didn't like:
1. WHY just WHY did Charlie have to have sex with the man who almost killed her sister and was complicit in her rape & murder of her mother? That's just cruel.
2. Why was her husband being such a lil bitch about her cheating, but then casually reveals that he was having an affair as well?
3. Things happened at just the right time too often for me to take it seriously (Rusty's death, Ben finding out the truth about Mason).

I really, really, really wanted to love this book. It was fine, and I enjoyed some parts of it, but others were so annoying that I actually had to put the book down because I was rolling my eyes so hard.

1. Diana should be a YA protagonist. There were times I had to go back and confirm that she was in fact in her thirties because she acted like such a teenager.
2. Matthew is just such a cliche.
3. I still don't understand the magical powers Diana possesses.

That being said, I LOVE the concept of a magical house with a mind of it's own. I also enjoyed the book enough to continue reading the series (plus, magic in Elizabethan England? Yesss please).

So this book ranged from a 2.5-3 stars for me.

1.5 stars. Jeez, that was boring.

Cassandra Clare is probably my favourite author and I read a ton.

This was a great ending to one of my favourite series... all the characters got a satisfying conclusion, and I can only imagine how difficult that is to pull off in a story of this magnitude.

The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because it was my least favourite in the series. I found the middle section a bit too long, and the whole Fae storyline kind of necessary - why not just send them directly to Thule?

All in all, love love love and can't wait to see what she does next.

3.5 stars. This book made me so uncomfortable so obviously that speaks to the talent of the author. I had a hard time putting it down as I couldn’t wait to see what happened next. My main complaint is that the ending is a huge let down... perhaps I didn’t understand it fully, but I honestly thought some pages were missing in my book because it seemed so sudden. I also just found out that this is the author’s debut novel so fantastic job to her!
