This has to be the saddest book I've ever read. Tia Hines sat around thinking up all the worst case scenarios for young Desire Jones and made it happen lol. I truly couldn't put this book down. I would rate it higher but I didn't care for the ending but it did leave things open for a sequel!
I wanted to LOVE this and give it five stars but something was missing and I can't put my finger on it at the moment. It had everything I love in a good book, SEX and DRAMA! Some things just didn't mesh well. Someone told me how hot the sex scenes were but I didn't think so. I still enjoyed it though but wanted more at the end. All I have to say is Truitt was a fool! Ain't no way in hell!
This book right here....OMG. If you are a fan of HARDCORE lesbian sex scenes then you'll love this book! This wasn't the "She caressed her face lovingly" type of sex scenes. This had orgies and strap ons galore! I wasn't a fan of Serenity, I thought she was a spoiled lil snot. I'd like to read more about Raya. I wasn't a fan of the ending...I felt like it was rushed. I have part 2 at my desk and will probably read that soon.
This was the first book I've read that had fisting....
That being said I enjoyed this a whole lot more than the first one in the series. Serenity is still a selfish heffa and I can't for the life of me understand why she pushes her sister away when she has given her all to make sure Serenity doesn't have to struggle. Serenity needs to have several seats! Some parts of this book were tough to read. This has a lot of sex in it but not like the first book where it was just about every other page. For anyone that has read this, do you picture Stevie J from Love and Hip Hop Atlanta as Cass? LMAO.
I can not wait for part 3. The ending to this one was wild!

This made me laugh out loud numerous times. I love when Lauren Leto talks about a book club as if it were fight club. Hilarious! Also my favorite was the chapter titled "What Your Child Will Grow Up to Be If You Read Them..." She gives examples of children's books like The Velveteen Rabbit saying if you read this to your child they will be a crybaby. Also the chapter titled "How to Fake It" where she gives tips on how to fake like you've read classic books by J.D. Salinger and others. I'll have to use that chapter as a resource. The patrons at the location I work at are very well read (they usually love the classic stuff) and when they ask me if I've read anything by Jack Kerouac I want to be able to converse with them instead of being like, what? If only they liked Zane and Carl Weber lol. This was a really cool book and it had just enough sarcastic humor to make me laugh.
I don't think I've ever in my life read a book with as many fellacio scenes as this! This book is not for the bible toting pearl clutchers which should be obvious by the title. I found it hard to feel sorry for the main character Pasha. She was selfish and hard headed. Why keep doing the same thing over and over when you know it's not good for you? I love that this had beauty shop drama in it. I couldn't wrap my mind around Jasper. All I could picture was some fine chocolate specimen who was dumb as hell. The ending was awesome and I always pride myself in knowing what's about to go down but this caught me off guard. I will surely be reading more books by Mr. Cairo! This was a good read.
I love the illustrations in the book and especially love Ted's big huge head. This is a perfect example of how kids can get caught up playing pretend. I didn't like how his mother and teachers got ticked off at him for playing doctor though.
Decent book on maintaining natural hair. I wish I had read the chapter on BC'ing before I actually did it! It would have saved me some money as I went to a salon first instead of a barber. Of course you are able to find all this info online now but when the book first came out in 2004 I bet there wasn't much then. I will probably refer back to this book from time to time.
This book was simply beautiful. Reading this made me wish I knew Gabe and could give him a huge hug. My heart goes out to people who feel like they were born in the wrong body. First they have to come to terms with it and then get heat from their families and losers who think they are an abomination. I loved the characters especially John. Gabe's parents emotions were real. I know it couldn't have been easy for them to have a little girl and then one day that little girl tell them they were really a boy. Paige was a sweetheart and I got pissed off when she stopped talking to Gabe but after what happened with the two jerks I could kind of understand. Thank God for John, Paige and music, particularly Elvis. Without those three Gabe probably wouldn't be alive. I love how each chapter title has something to do with Elvis. Tip, if you aren't familiar with most of the songs talked about, please download them or listen to them on Youtube. This book had some wonderful music in it.
I really really hope there is a sequel that follows Gabe as he makes the physical transformation and his life in college. I hope you're reading this Kirstin Cronn-Mills! :-)
Oh and this NEEDS to be made into a movie.

Yesssssssssss gawd. Miss Saundra showed out on this book. In all honesty I didn't think I would enjoy this but this ended up being a definite page turner! Mya was a trip! I liked her character for being a strong independent young lady willing to do what she had to do for her family. This had sad moments and it's sad that many young people live the life the characters in the book lead (violence, drug addiction). I will have to recommend this book to people who enjoy a good urban lit novel. My hats off to Saundra!
There better be a sequel cause you know you were dead wrong for that ending Miss Saundra lol.
