I have to give this book 5 stars! forbidden romance trope but it definitely doesn't stop there. both characters show trauma from their childhood & the story would show how they got over it. i love river & grayson together. gray may be grumpy towards her sometimes but he never fails to be with her when she needs someone. NEVER! this book is a must read & i would probably add them to my favorites.
This is my first book that I read by Ava Harrison and while I enjoyed Gray and River's story this is cleary a book in a series and I am missing some details. Or the author just decided to gloss over on some details. Gray was best friends with River's dad, Tyler, and apparently there was a falling out 8 years prior. No explanation as to why they had a falling out though. I suspect something to do with his sister (after investigating her book is Deceit so maybe that will give me the details but the timeline doesn't seem to add up to me - another story for another day). Tyler and Gray meet up to discuss a business deal and Tyler brings River along. Gray doesn't recognize her at first but instantly wants to take her to his room. Once he realizes who River is the struggle begins. He wants her but he is 15 years older than her, her dad is/was his best friend and he has this fear that he will die young and abandon those he loves. River has had secret crush on Gray since she was 12 (she turns 21 during their tale) and does her best to get under his skin when they reconnect. She has abandonment issues that I won't get into so I don't spoil anything so she convinces herself that she can't get to close to anyone - even Gray. Spoiler alert - they both epically fail on the whole not falling in love thing.
While I really enjoyed this book I think a few things fell a little flat. There were a couple plot points that were integral to the story but they were glossed over and not developed well enough. Her mom and Larry. I would have liked to see more of these two woven into the story a bit more. But overall this was a good read and I will have to go back and read the others so that maybe all my questions will be answered.

A very conflicting read for me. Overall, I loved the concept, Grayson, River, their relationship…this had all of my horcruxes! Girl with daddy issues, age gap relationship, hot boss man, the secrets and mystery, abandonment but he fills that hole in my heart, hot sex, business, EVERYTHING! But like so many others, this book spent SOOOO much time being angsty like oh we can’t be together and ended up really rushing the ending! I loved the explosive scene where Tyler punched Grayson for sleeping with his daughter, that made sense. But the part where Kim and Tyler were lying to River about her mom? Giving her serious abandonment issues for years? Made no sense. That’s just fucked up and Tyler’s fucked up for making comments like don’t be like your mom etc. Grayson’s the only one good there and she should have told him more and leaned on him. And the Larry embezzlement scandal frustrated me. Why wouldn’t you at least tell Grayson? Stupid. All this drama suddenly resolved way too easily after all that turmoil…just didn’t make sense. I felt unsatisfied with the rushed ending but I still liked the book…

So I have been on a new author's kick (as in new to me). I am running out of books to read by my favorite authors so I have to find new material. This has become increasingly hard since Audibles Escape (AE) went away. So after MANY hours spent surfing multiple Facebook groups, KU, Plus, and Goodreads I have quite a few new authors. Hopefully I’ll have an updated recommendations list in my announcements.
Ava Harrison has popped a few times over the years but it was never in AE so I always promised myself I’d get around to trying her books later. Well the time has come and let me tell you this was sooooo good. I love a good Age Gap especially with a heroine who doesn't act her age. River is very mature for her age but also has her moments of acting like your typical 21 year old. Gray is 36 and acts far older, he needed a little youth in his life. He was always so serious. They start dating in secret mostly because they aren't really dating just FWB but of course they fall in love.
I think the thing I loved the most about this story was that there was no surprise pregnancy and their breakup was very short lived. I have found that a lot of Age Gap books include a surprise pregnancy and that is the cause of them getting back together, which always makes me feel like that is the only reason that they got back together. They belonged together so the short breakup, while inevitable, was so short and honestly not the climax of the story which was just the best.
This story gave me all the feels!! I laughed and smiled through most of it but I also cried at times. This story really touched my heart on multiple levels. I think the only thing I would have changed was the first time that River meets the rest of Gray’s family. I would have loved to get their reactions to their age gap, especially Gray’s mother.
PS: I am pretty sure that Ava Harrison’s series connects but I can't be positive about the order yet.
