Don't worry about me only giving this three stars- truly- this is still a good book. Perfect even, for it's actual targeted audience. In the last installment of Mr. Lemoncello it was all about the facts! It was non-fictions time to shine and there was a lot of good information in the story. This time around, we're focusing on fiction (my personal preference).
Riddles and such in this book weren't quite as book-centric as the others. This installment is a bit more video-game(ish) than the others. However, there are still quite a lot of bookish references and fun play off word/title scenarios. And the are always fun.
Additionally in this book we had a little more insight into Charles' character, and though I feel a lot like Kyle does in regards to him, I understand why Grabenstein did that. It's a message to kids. It's a good lesson.
All of this being said, this book was exactly what I was looking for, because I was in the need for a light and easy book with familiar characters that I could idly listen to while still accomplishing other tasks (mostly walking in the park).
These reviews are partly for you, but they're partly for me too- to remind me if I want to continue the journey. Would I buy the next book in this series? I doubt it. (I own none of them, and I would refuse to start by owning the last one.) But, would I check the last one out from my local library and bring it home to read? Also, probably not.š BUT, I would check out a digital copy and listen to last one. After all, I'm a little bit of a completionist.

I haven't met a Lemoncello book that I have not liked. The Willy Wonka-like star is delightful, everything revolves around books, and it has puzzles. What more could a reader ask for?

Chris Grabenstein you have done it again! Mr Lemoncello, Kyle, Akimi, Sierra, Miguel, Andrew, Dr. Z, Haley, and even Charles are at it again. This book was truly a joy to read and did not disappoint!

The Lemoncello series is always so odd to review. It feels more like Iām reading a game than an actual story. I regularly donāt remember the individual installments of the series, just the general idea of the series. The individual characters are all very flat, even Kyle (protagonist) and Charles (antagonist) have very little depth to them beyond their two-dimensional characteristics.
Despite these ācomplaintsā, I did enjoy this fourth book more than the previous two installments in the series. I think Iāve learned to just embrace the cheesiness and the weirdness and roll with it at this point. Yes, a lot of the ideas and plot points are over the top, but thatās kind of the point Iāve realized. For example, a 7th grader called an 8th grader her hero because of how much she reads. Thatās inherently stupid and unrealistic, but by embracing the absurdity of Grabensteinās writing, I could find some semblance of humor within it.
