Mahmoud Darwish was born with a pen in his hand. What can I even say to do his writing justice. This book is like nothing I've ever experienced in my entire life. Every word, every metaphor was so carefully chosen. I'm really really looking forward to rereading it.

i have never admired a writer as much as i admire mahmoud darwish and i can not begin to form a sentence that does justice to how beautiful his writing style is.he was born to write.he was born to let someone else(me)see the world through his words.and it is the biggest luxury that i’ve been granted.

i think this is my favorite out of all of darwish’s works that i’ve read to date. i’ve always been more of a prose girlie than a poetry girlie, but this is impeccable. it felt almost musical to read, and as always, laden with so many references and symbols. i almost certainly missed out on a good number of them, but the ones that i did notice really added to the narrative. i so desperately wish i was able to read this in the original arabic but the translated version was still gorgeously impactful.

this book is so insanely beautiful, but a part of me wonders if i’m really ready for it. there was so much i felt unable to grasp and as much as i enjoyed it, i was also left longing for the experience to give me a deeper understanding. will be revisiting this in some other time
