Ana is living a quiet life in snowy Whistler with her beloved dog, Matilda. The only thing wrong is the horrific nightmares she has. They have gotten so bad that she barely sleeps anymore.

One night, Ana meets the enigmatic Cyril, Arie, and devastatingly handsome Athen. She feels an instant connection with them that she can't explain, and soon she finds herself needing to be around them constantly. Then they explain to her the reason why she feels that way, and Ana's world is rocked. Because within her dreams lies the truth, and Athen must protect her at all costs.

I almost gave up on this books at first because...insta-love. But, I'm glad I didn't. The idea behind the plot is pretty good.

I found Ana a little annoying, honestly. When Athen, Arie, and Cyril tell her the truth about herself, she is just like, "What? Oh, OK." She didn't have too much disbelief. Also, the most unintentionally funny thing about this book was how she kept throwing herself at Athen and he kept denying her sex. She was shameless about it, and it was funny.

I feel like this book had both too much and not enough description. When the supernatural terms start flying around, they aren't really explained. But there are whole long paragraphs on the way houses look and the way hotels are decorated. I found myself glossing over several parts.

The action was sparse, but I feel like that happens often in first books of a series--they are mostly backstory. When the action did happen, it went by quickly and I wish there had been a bit more exposition.

So, why was the book worth reading? Well...Athen. SIGH. Who doesn't want a man that caters to your every whim before you even ask for it? Super sexy, thoughtful, and a powerful warrior? PERFECTION.
Also, I really did like the idea of "white demons" and everything that they encompass.

The book left me with several unanswered questions that I hope will be addressed in its' sequel. With most of the background story out of the way, hopefully now we can get down to some real action.

Adding a review for this as I've rated it without a review.

A lot of things have happened since. 2014 Was a very hard year for myself so all the reviews are showing up on the same date. I can't explain why they are, if the ratings are justice or accurate I can also not say when I truly read these. I'm just going to say 2014 on the same day added just to keep the year right if not the month...

The thing that I liked most about Awakening was the amount of detail that went into the story. This world is so rich, I totally loved it! The characters are good too, but the detail that went into the world building was the star for me.

I really connected with Ana. I felt for her, her life certainly has not been the easiest, and then with everything new happening she doesn't know what to believe. There is certainly a lot going on all at once for Ana, and it is just all so new to her. Luckily she has Athen, who is so amazing. Seriously, he is almost too good to be true. But i'll get back to him.

Karen is Ana's only friend from her "normal" life. I liked Karen, you can tell that she is really a good person and that she looks out for Ana. But there was a point in the middle of the book that kind of struck me as odd. There was this situation with Karen that kind of came out of left field but wasn't really explained or developed. It kind of just faded away. I would have liked to see a little bit more of her and figured out what was going on exactly.

Athen and Arie are super cute. I loved their brother/sister dynamic, and I found them really funny. There are still some unanswered questions, so I'm really excited to see where the second book will go. With the devastating ending of this book, I have an inkling of what is going to be a main focus but hopefully some more things will be answered. In a way, the second book is the most important to me in a series. The foundation has been set and now you can really get into the story, so I am even more excited to see what is going to happen. I am really liking this series, and I hope the next book has some good endings for Ana and Athen.

Ana lives a lonely life. She only has one friend and no family to speak of. One night while working in the pub, a group of mysterious strangers turn her world upside down and what she finds is everything she has ever dreamed of, but at what cost?
This book really took me by surprise. I was not sure how much I would like it, but it turned out to be so much better than I had imagined!

The Family

I loved the fact that Ana had finally gotten the family that she deserved. I really enjoyed the times when all four of them were together, but, I would have to say that my favorite would be Arie. She kind of reminded me of Alice from Twilight. The sweet but knowledgable sister type that is everybody's friend. Except the bad guy.

The Romance

The romance was fairly quick to start and then it seemed to come to an abrupt halt. Ana and Athen had met quickly and were in each others arms fairly quickly, but, the romance basically went no further until almost the end of the book. I LOVED IT!!! The anticipation build up was perfect and actually kept me not wanting to put the book down.

Matilda

Okay, so I will admit it. Matilda was the only reason that I was interested in reading this book. Well, the paranormal aspect was good too..LOL I love bulldogs and as many of you know, I have recently lost mine, so, when I saw this book. I just had to read it. Matilda only plays a small role in the story, but it was enough for me to get my bulldog fix.

The Storyline

I enjoy anything paranormal and a story about angels and demons is perfect. The suspense that is given through Ana's dreams really kept me thrown off at wondering what is real and what was simply just a dream. I thought it was an interesting take on angels with Ana's "reawakening" into herself and her new family explaining her old life to her. I very much enjoyed Ana's flashbacks/memories.

Final thoughts

I really enjoyed this book much more than I had expected. I am looking forward to reading the next one in the trilogy, Legions. The ending had me in tears and I am patiently waiting to see what happens next. Keep on the lookout for the review coming soon!

"Why didn't you ask me for my number when I was serving you?" I asked trying to sound incensed but failing miserably.

"You weren't exactly what I would call coherent during our time together earlier if you remember. I really didn't want to see what would happen if I did."

It wasn't the best written book I have ever read. The author is quite redundant which makes it difficult to read at times. The battle scenes are iffy at best. However, I got addicted to the characters so quickly that I had to finish the series. My advice: get the inexpensive e-book if you need something to read while on a short trip.

Interesting story about fallen angels (aka white demons) and how they battle against the black demons. Most of the story was focused on Ana and Athen, their love story and Ana's getting used to the fact that she is a fallen angel.

Will I read it again? Maybe

Will I reccomend this book to family and friends? Maybe
