I just couldn't enjoy this book the whole time I was reading it. I found it unbelievable that an 18 year old who has never before left her isolated island somehow outsmarts all these older, wiser, more sinister characters and effortlessly wins the day and lives happily ever after with her one true love

really and truly adored this book, i love how simple the plot seemed in the beginning but then as it gets more into the world building and the actually WRITING it takes a completely different path every chance it can, was unlike anything i have ever read and to find out it was inspired by the princess bride made soo much sense and made me even more fond of it.
blown away by Brandon Sanders writing and can whole heartedly say it lives up to all the hype!! enjoyed sm and will be reading more by him for sure

I thoroughly enjoyed everything about this. As a story told by Hoid, it was whimsical and felt, as Sanderson mentioned, just like the "adult" fairy tale he was trying to evoke. She was everything I expected and more. She was a protagonist with so much hidden potential realized so well, I didn't even know all that was coming. The story, definitely way more inviting than your average Cosmere novel, was all too cute. I was initially anticipating this being something that felt more throwaway; a functionally irrelevant planet with an intriguing backstory. Backwater. Meaningless. And it was oh so much more.

Tress is truly inspiring and some of the touching and relatable real world references that Sanderson makes truly highlight how unique a protagonist she ended up being (for him, mostly). What an endearing story about a bunch of characters with a joyfully satisfying happy ending.
