These characters are insufferable. They don’t have dialogue — they have alternating monologues. I think the author started with a moral he liked, and wrote the plot and characters around that moral. And he just kept hammering at it on every page. And I don’t totally disagree with his moral. But this vehicle for it was maximum irritating.

This was a great stand-alone novel. It explores the effects of current technology on the masses and has a lot of depth in terms of research and interaction between the characters. I really enjoy reading his books - always an interesting take on stuff.

Sometimes a bit heavy-handed in an insufferable way, other times very human in a real way. Inspires the sort of cyclical thought pattern of trying to analyze your own cynicism, or nihilism, in exactly the way it's suggested is unwise to do alone. I don't read much contemporary fiction, so it's always a bit jarring to read about real-life social media, or places, or events (even when they're mostly discussed in that tongue-in-cheek way), but overall written with very compelling narration. I'd consider reading a book by this author again!
Writing seemed like it was trying too hard to be cool and meta and it wasn't working for me
This book is extremely of this era and I wonder how well it’ll translate 5, 10, 20 years from now… a wild and entertaining book nonetheless.
