Writing seemed like it was trying too hard to be cool and meta and it wasn't working for me

This book is extremely of this era and I wonder how well it’ll translate 5, 10, 20 years from now… a wild and entertaining book nonetheless.

I was expecting some sort of roadtrip novel and was surprised to realize that this book keeps changing from one point of view to the next, from main characters to secondary ones, including bystanders on reddit!
I liked how, using an almost silly prompt, the author managed to make me questions a lot of my opinions. While I fully disagree with some theories (looking at you, Abbott), it was disturbing, in a good way, to see a completely different view on a subject. Definitely food for thought!
Nice resolution too, and yes, be patient and you'll know what that box is :)

Wasn't sure how I felt about the characterization and pacing, so I started reading some reviews and read some pretty crazy stuff. So I decided just to give it up for now.

2.5/5

this is not the book to read if you want a bit of escapism from how the world's looking right now, even with one characters unrelenting optimism that things arent actually as bad as they seem

as with all of jason pargins book, im a huge fan of his writing style and general sense of humour and it wasn't any different here, but i think the thing that puts me off this book so much more than his other stuff is how... for lack of a better term, annoying most of the characters are dfghj

ive seen a few reviews complaining about the "underwhelming" contents of the box and sure, given the build up and i can see why some might see it that way, but personally i thought it was pretty fitting for the overall message. also some of those reddit posts felt a little Too accurate to how shit online snowballs which, i guess, is the point

probably not one ill be reading again soon, but entertaining during my time with it. just not one for me, i think :']
