Hell yes. I love this story so much. Ryn is an absolute badass and I pray to god that Casey Matthews is working on the next book for the series.

I would be careful though if you're sensitive to SA or gore especially because there are some gruesome scenes.

I must have taken four times as long to finish The One Who Eats Monsters than I'd have taken to read any other book of the same length.
But this is not any book, even before I finished the first chapter I already knew that I wanted to hang on to it for as long as possible. That's how you know you have a favorite in hands.

This book is amazing. One of the best books I have read in a long time. Can't wait for book two!!

Good main character, but missing deeper plot early on

Took a while to get into this book and while it did not capture my attention and hold it firmly, Ryn is endearing. I love the weaving in of lore/mythology, not so much the murder mystery. I will read the next as I like the main character.

I LOVED this book! I was hooked from the very beginning.
It was so creative, and the world and characters were amazing!
The writing was so visual I was physically cringing at some of the more gory scenes (but like, in a good way??)

There's an abundance of sexual assault in this book, and I just can't justify why the author included it. Personally, I don't believe there's ever any situation in which you can justify rape as a plot device, and frankly when it doesn't add to the plot then it's just gratuitous.

SpoilerIn the first chapter, a girl is raped. The main character is raped, threatened with rape, almost sexually assaulted, and also lives with a sexually abusive foster father. This foster father historically abused one of the children he was responsible for, leading to her suicide. He is later caught masturbating by the bedside of another of his foster children. The love interest is almost sexually assaulted. The love interests friend is almost date-raped. A paedophile is used to try and lure the love interest away from the main character, and is later found attempting to groom a lost child.

The book starts off with a bang. The prologue alone makes references to characters dying, rape, gang rape, torture, mutilation and so much more. From there the story does lighten although it remains a dark book throughout.

Ryn is an immortal being that predates history. Her very nature is fixed and unchangeable: to bring vengeance upon the monsters of the world, those that harm the innocent. Long ago cast out from civilization she lived on the fringes of the world. She was discovered tortured in a camp of smugglers. After being rescued by a group of US military she is shipped back to the US and stuck into an institution and then a group home.

The story really begins to take off as Ryn is placed into the group home. She discovers the plot of a demonic creature to hunt a teenage girl and sets off to consume the demon.
