This book is a super creative mishmash of my favorite YA tropes. It does have a lot of heart though, and Esme is super relatable. Four solid stars for this one. One thing really bugged me though, is a typo not far into the book - we *peel* a banana, not *peal* a banana.

I wanted to like this book. I loved the premise and the cover but it was so painfully, obviously written by an older man that I couldn't stomach it. the girls were all "pretty" and unrealistic and the first time one called another a "whore" I closed the book and decided I wouldn't put myself through it. not only were the girls one dimensional, so were the boys. British accents that make a boy "irresistible" and catty girl hate were not enough to keep my interest in the slightest.

Was pulled in and enticed by the title alone! I love the look of it. Anyways… I was a little confused at first because they are witches I thought maybe there were other magical creatures in their world. Normal in their lives and world but no. There is one character that is inspired by Frankenstein. I liked that it wasn’t really automatic. He had a different story that I wasn’t expecting. And another that is a magical creature but is just as unbelievable to them. Overall a good young adult book I would give it to my daughter to read. It’s a clean and interesting read.

Come read with me!

Entertaining and fun, with the tongue in cheek style of young adult fantasy that I liked from The Evil Librarian (one of my favs) but wasn't that strong in characterization or development. There was a lot of telling not showing, and I felt like I kept being told what the characters were instead of just feeling it myself.

The biggest annoyance was that Esme was supposed to the level headed and ruled by her brain, but she was irrational and emotional when she shouldn't have been multiple times even after not being under (what was essentially) hypnosis. And all in all, I think the characters were all just one stock personality trait without much else to them (Esme is smart, Katy is fun, Ronnie is beautiful) and also there were some unfortunate implications when a character accepts his sexuality. It's cool to have a character come to terms with it, but he previously didn't have any personality and suddenly is just characterized by being gay (it's just done in a way that I found uncomfortable). I also didn't really like the scene after Esme gets clarity because it's literally reducing her classmates to a single trait, as if a person is actually defined by one major thing.

Besides these things it was a fun ride and had a lot of positives.

This book had a good plot, but there were some concerning things in it. The book contained objectifying comments about some of the female characters along with gay stereotypes. There were some comments in the book that could be triggering to people eating disorders. But over the story was very funny and had great attention to detail!

Yeah nothing about this was grabbing me and I'm also side-eyeing the author 5-starring a bunch of Laurie Forest books, sorry.

Poorly written characters, offensive jokes and stereotypes, and lack of cohesive POV throughout the entire story. It just left me feeling annoyed at ever purchasing it in the first place.
-Spoilers beyond this point-
None of the sisters have any personality besides their one defining trate of: smart, artsy, or pretty. The pretty one clearly suffers from anorexia that no one ever tries to help her with, and it actually ends up being the butt of a few jokes.

I’ve never read a more cantankerous supernatural romp. I will admit I started this feeling very leery and just looking for something to get me out of my reading slump but once I committed? I was invested and wanted to see it to the very end.

I really appreciate the vast character arcs as well as the detail taken into aspects of witchcraft and law—-yes you read that right.

A fun read! I was laughing way too much by the back half even when my heart was sinking every other page in the middle. I felt the full trajectory of emotions reading this.

Best book ever? Perhaps not. A good time? Absolutely.
