“If you wish to be happy, Eragon, think not of what is to come nor of that which you have no control over but rather of the now and of that which you are able to change.”

The third installment of The Inheritance Cycle has been my favorite yet. Eragon continues to face the daunting challenge of Galbatorix’s seeming invincibility, the threat of his brother, Murtagh, who seems to be impossibly powerful, while also still learning and building his strength and magic, without a Dragon Rider’s blade since his was stolen. This book surprisingly took us back through Tronjheim and the dwarves as well as back to Ellesméra and the elves, however this time, Eragon is much more mature and less annoying. There still was multiple POV (including Saphira’s!) that happened break up the monotony that can occur from single POV.

I feel that as the author aged, so did his writing and I enjoyed this book so much more than Eldest. I cannot wait for the final installment, as I’m still clueless on how this is all going to come together.

I liked the book more on reread, but can understand why I rated it lower when I initially read it. I feel like the books were so long and this was not the trilogy that it was initially planned so that each book could end with a feeling of defeat/sadness. This caused parts to be unnecessarily drawn out.
