This was slow to begin with, but once the story got going it became a page turner. If you are a fan of the show, you will really love this as Jon Land’s writing really portrays the atmosphere of the show.

This was my first MSW novel not by Bain (I’ve only read two so far tbh) and I found this novel not as charming as those originals from the characters, dialog and the whole murder info. The past skeleton mystery and town history was intriguing, but I was expecting a little more cozy Christmas feels.

I found it to be a little repetitive especially with character’s sayings; Even though I did laugh at a couple jokes. Some plot info was predictable though I was a little surprised at who the murderer actually was. Mediocre for me

As with all of the Murder She Wrote books, the writing isn’t the best and sometimes they don’t even bother to look at the original source material, rather preferring to make up their own lore. I would have liked more of a Christmas element to a book set at Christmas but still a fun light read

I am rating this a bit higher than the two previous books in the series I have read (#50 and 51) as the solution was much more plausible. This is a great cozy series, if you are in the mood for one, but it is clearly geared to those of us in my generation who loved the TV show.

This is the last of the books written by Land, and the next one I will read, #53 (didn't go back to the beginning; started with 50 when I randomly saw it in the library)will be by the new author taking over the series, Terrie Farley Moran. Not sure when I will read that, but it will be fun to discern differences between the authors.

Not my favorite of the holiday books but always a pleasure to be with Jessica for the holidays. I didn’t guess the killer, even pages before the reveal, and to be honest I didn’t think it was a great, solvable mystery in the end. The evidence leading up to it was pretty manufactured and unbelievable. Forget motive for murder, I don’t think the premise of hiding the trunk in Jessica’s yard made any sense. The town antique dealer buries a chest of historical documents in someone’s yard instead of displaying them for historical record? Nah.
