I had no idea where this was going as we delved into the history of the valley of fear. I wish there was more time spent connecting Moriarty to the work, but I suppose that’s for another story. Overall, it was a very good book and an exciting read!

The first half is a solid mystery but the second half Doyle goes wandering off in a barely related story. It's similar to A Study In Scarlet, although not quite as bad. The plot's decent, even if the characters are flat and dull (Doyle can't write women to save his life).
