I had no idea where this was going as we delved into the history of the valley of fear. I wish there was more time spent connecting Moriarty to the work, but I suppose that’s for another story. Overall, it was a very good book and an exciting read!

The first half is a solid mystery but the second half Doyle goes wandering off in a barely related story. It's similar to A Study In Scarlet, although not quite as bad. The plot's decent, even if the characters are flat and dull (Doyle can't write women to save his life).

Working my way through the Holmes stories in order and this my favourite so far. Two mysteries for the price of one, and a portentous set up for Holmes' next adventure.
Brilliant!
