A complex case or two rather involving several police forces and special branch. A forensic profiler working on a serial killer case gets murdered but was it the serial killer or someone else?

The profiler being from Bath sees Peter Diamond embroiled in her case and can't help being intrigued by the potential serial killer too.

I really enjoyed this case and I hadn't sussed it out except for who the chap at the beach in black was. It was fun to see the friendship of Peter and Hen (she has her own series too - I wonder if they cross paths in the future too?). A fun team they make, although so many cigars! The Clash of The Cats tickled me too. All in all a great read and very very interesting solution.

Once again Diamond doesn't disappoint. However, the plotlines fitted together a little too well. I guessed who the killer was and I wished I was wrong because it was a boring idea.

I took a break from this series after Diamon's wife was murdered. I was just to wrecked by that. I am sorry I didn't come back sooner. This was a great installment in the Peter Diamond series. I'm rushing out to read the rest.

Would have rated this classic english mystery higher except for (potential spoiler) no professional would mix personal and case notes in a single file. Made everything a little too accessible, and the killer a little bit of an afterthought in character development.

I wanted a fun mystery/thriller to read, so I picked up this book. It seemed oddly familiar at times, and I figured it may have been one of the many books I’ve started reading but gave up on. Because of this, I was dedicated to finishing the book. It was only after I got to the end of the book that I realized I HAD read The House Sitter before. I just didn’t remember it because it’s just not that memorable. Damnit, now I’ve read a shitty book twice.

Found this in the bargain bin at the used bookstore & I'm glad I did. I was in the mood for a classic murder mystery and this delivered in spades. The last mystery I read was so pretentious and boring that it made this one seem great. Set in current day(well, 2003) Britain, the plot concerns both a woman being strangled at a crowded beach with no one noticing and a serial killer who has named several future victims who seem to have nothing in common. Are the two crimes related or not? The reader gets to know a bit about the detectives working the cases but not too much. It is a crime story, not a character driven story. I found it the right amount of back story-enough to like the detectives and find them compelling, but not so much that the crime takes a back seat to the internal lives of the characters.Hopefully the other books in this series are just as entertaining.
