The pacing was weird: this book had a slow start and a rushed feeling to the ending. You do get to see Harper's relationship with Quinton evolve, and the Danzigers make a brief appearance. A decent book, but not the strongest entry in the series.

I love this series and especially this addition. Not only seeing Harper grow in her powers and her relationship with Quinton, but to learn about new-to-me myths and legends. Kat researches wonderfully to present a well-told tale to the reader.
I could feel the atmosphere of the rain that was intrinsic to the story, the exhaustion of battles, just wonderful.
Harper is still finding her way and each time, when it should be getting simpler, it becomes more difficult. She pushes on, she has a duty. She knows it's the right thing to do.
I can definitely recommend this book.

6th book in a series I read mostly for the Endeavour Award. This one was disappointing. It just felt off and confused. The afterwards implied it was a rip off of Dashiell Hammett's Red Harvest - which gave me something else to avoid. I think just changing the setting to the Olympic Peninsula shouldn't have wrecked the mood of the book and it kind of did. Basically it was lots of uninteresting plot around the control of magic around a lake and blah blah blah who cares. With about 50 pages of ripping page-turning goodness near the end.

It Was a good book but I felt annoyed that she went out to work not only on the paranormal issue but on the background info she'd been hired for then doesn't bother doing anything for the mundane job shes supposed to be working.

2.5, quite a step down from the last novel. Didn't really seem like to much happened, then things all came to a head suddenly in the last 30 pgs. Hoping things pick back up in the next installment.

The sixth installment of the Greywalker series takes place outside of Seattle, on the Olympic Peninsula, where strange things are happening in the Grey:

"There was something deeply wrong with Lake Crescent; I knew it even before I saw the accident that wasn't there. The ground seemed to hum and mutter as if a current raged beneath it. Cobwebs of colored light leaked from the Grey - that slippery place between the normal and the paranormal where ghosts are real and magic gleams like neon reflected in wet, black streets."

Harper Blaine is a Greywalker - a person who has died, for a moment or more, and come back to life able to see this in-between. Based in Seattle, Harper has explored the mysteries of the Grey in London and LA, in previous books. This is her first excursion to the Peninsula. Whether this is your first trip into the Grey, or your sixth, Kat Richardson's compelling descriptions and strong, quirky characters will pull you into the mystery as well. I love this series - having coded myself once, I was drawn to this when I saw Poltergeist (which I think was the second one). I found all the others published at the time and read them within a week. This installment took two days - only because life got in the way. While I had tpo wait a few months for Downpour on the library list, it is one that I will buy when i have the money and add to my collection of Richardson books. I highly recommend any in this series!

I really like Harper & Quinton as a couple and I like how Harper is not super powerful anymore but the real star of the show was the ferret Chaos. She is so cute and entertaining.
