My gosh did this world feel so real and beautiful and haunting. I got so connected with the complex characters and felt their pain, excitement, fear, and everything in between. I'm still marveling at how a book can cover so many topics without feeling preachy - feminism, the meat industry, motherhood/fertility, sexism, and so much more, plus a captivating story!

Interesting premise, but not very subtly written. The main character is a Japanese-American documentarian, hired to direct a TV show to run in Japan featuring......MEAT, for an American beef exporter. Along the way, she learns lots of disturbing stuff about the modern meat industry, all of which I already knew, and all of which seemed beaten over my head....not worked into the story well at all.
