3.5 stars, rounded up to 4 on here. I felt that it was overall such a cool story and setting, but it feels as if there are pieces that don't quite fit. Even after spending 3 books with these characters they never felt developed enough. I wasn't all convinced by their actions, the pacing was also odd. Some parts felt slow and others felt rushed. But overall I think it's an intriguing fantasy world and I recommend this to those who enjoy elemental magic, beautiful world building, and some political ongoings.

Compared with the rest of this trilogy, I felt like this book dragged a bit.

A really enjoyable “ending”. I was so pleasantly surprised by some of the twists and turns in this last book. And it kept me wanting more of this world!

Thank you to Harper Voyager for an electronic ARC of this book, provided through Edelweiss. I picked up the first book in this series just a few short months ago. I was immediately drawn into the world that Sarah Beth Durst created. I do enjoy some YA and fantasy books, but they have never been the genre that I spend the most time with. As soon as I finished the first book, I started the second one. I didn't think that it would be possible to love the second book more, but I did! It was exciting and refreshing. So, I obviously couldn't wait until MAY 2018 for the third one. So, I e-mailed the publisher and they sent me a copy right away! That was exciting, let me tell you, my first ARC! It couldn't have been a better one. While the writing didn't feel as quickly paced as the first two, I really enjoyed the stories being told. While reading I was thinking to myself that the author should have split this book up into 2 separate books. After finishing, I don't think it would have been necessary, but there was so much new information introduced in this book that I would have loved to hear more about. 4 stars on a book review is pretty much as good as it gets from me. You really have to blow my mind to get 5. Sarah Beth Durst did that with the first two novels in the Queens of Renthia. She concluded the story in a beautiful way. She also leaves a little surprise for her readers at the end of the Acknowledgements (which you should always be reading anyway!!!)

Queen Daleina just felt like a side character in this story and that disappointed me because she was the reason I fell in love with the story. I also thought this story just dragged out a little bit by the end.

In short, I really liked this trilogy, I was surprised by how much I liked it, and the premise/concept felt fairly unique for the fantasy I've read lately. Recommend!

I still found Naelin so annoying as I can't relate to her at all, but she at least noticed her weaknesses in this one. And Renet is also so annoying but I LOVE Daleina!! My true queen. Merecot and Garnah are so interesting. I like where Naelin ended up and I liked seeing new locations. But overall, it was so good!! I can't wait to see Belene

I settled right back into this world and it's characters and spirits. The ending felt satisfactory, but I swear I was expecting a little more "oomph" to the story. I'm looking forward to reading her next story in this world but I'm content to let the current queens go.
