Loved the first 2 books, liked the last book. Overall a fantasy series definitely worth reading. Thought provoking, unique, and well paced!

I instantly fell in love with The Queen of Blood, devoured The Reluctant Queen, and was so excited for the third installment!! But, for some reason, this just didn’t have that fire the first two did. It felt almost rushed at times.
Naelin was annoying af. I’m not a mom, so maybe her fierce love for her kids is a bond I’m not aware of, but it was just a bit much. Like the hysteria and blatant disregard for every other life besides her kids. So that was difficult to get through.
Also, I’m super disappointed that Bayne’s history was left to one sentence (“he’s an evolved spirit”. Ugh C’MON I WAITED THREE BOOKS FOR THIS). I felt I needed more explanation on that. And also on how groups of people are surviving in the untamed lands? How long have they been there? Why are they there? How have they survived? Where did they come from?
All in all, I love this world so much and the characters, even though Naelin needs to calm the eff down and Merecot’s character was pretty cheesy at times (like when she cleans her ears to exaggerate not understanding Daleina). Felt a little like a Children’s book at some parts. BUT I CANT NOT LOVE IT.

This was a chore to finish. I liked book 1, book 2 was not as strong, but I still wanted to try 3. And 3 was an utter disappointment. I wanted to dnf, but since it was the third I tried my best.

I hated everyone.
The spirits should just eat everyone

Srsly the bad guy! Whatever

Nope nope nope

I fell in love with this series, and saddened that it has come to an end.

The final installment of The Queens of Renthia closes all avenues, only leaving hints of sequels or spin offs. We finds ourselves in the shoes of three queens, Daneila, Naelin and now Merecot, Queen of Semo and their struggle for power and survival. With Naelin hungry for revenge against Merecot after kidnapping her children, Daleina tries her hardest to keep what is left of her country and people alive. There are many struggles and the main plot is to save Renthia from spirits originally from the Untamed Lands. Betrayal is an active theme in Queen of Sorrow and even though it was a bit of a slow paced plot, it did not disappoint.

We are briefly introduced to other reigning queens. I hope that there will be more books exploring these little details the author gave us (with The Deepest Blue coming out!)

3.5 Stars!

This series really is such a cool concept, but a lot fell short for me.

I feel like most of what happened in this book was just because of people making stupid decisions and refusing to communicate and I really hate that.

Merecot is honestly just an idiot and nothing in this book would've had to happen if she just spoke to Dalenia. Honestly, none of last book would've had to happen either.

Because of that it just felt like the whole book was unnecessary.

I also felt like the ending was rushed.

Things were finally happened that were not the cause of this idiocy, and all of that was just rushed through in about two or three chapters.

I liked how it ended, but honestly those plots were what I wanted more of.

It would've been great to see Dalenia's sister Arin's (probably wrong but I listened on audiobook so I know no spelling unless it's in the summary) relationship actually build instead of just suddenly there. Same with what ended up being Naelin's ending.

I think ending it by learning a bit about the rest of the lands and what's happening was the most intriguing part, and I would love to read a spin off series about all of that.

Overall a pretty lackluster conclusion in my opinion.

Wow! I don’t usually find that trilogies get stronger with each installment but that’s exactly what happened here. What a world. This is the YA fantasy I will be putting in the hands of everyone I talk to!

DNF
I loved the first book in the series soooo much.
The second one was well done as well.
I tried to finish this one and kept coming back but I just can't find it in me to finish it.
The mother and child drama was a definite put off for me for whatever reason.
