The book took too long to get to the point and then spent too much time going over and back over the same thing and why were only the female characters affected? Also as if you wouldn't demand an explanation from your husband.

It was an easy read but a pretty superficial look at what potentially could be an interesting and substantial plot.

I liked the parallel stories that came together into a happy ending.

I also like how both Sylvie and Maggie started businesses with handmade items.

Maybe because I listened to this book, I noticed some different word uses: "hold" instead of "ahold" and others. Hearing different things is one of the benefits of audio books.

Found this audio book at the library used book sale and am quickly becoming a fan of Jane Green.

Listening length 10 hr, 10 min

Eh, not her best effort. Mindless chick lit.

I have read quite a few books by Jane Green; however, Family Pictures was one of her best! Without giving away the book, it is a heartfelt story of two women with two families and find they have a lot in common. Only when one daughter visits the other, their world crumble.

There are many take-a-ways from this book – people are not always as they seem, and it takes something bad to happen in order for us to find our true selves. Things do not bring happiness and you find out your true friends when lose it all. You really learn to love Maggie towards the end of the book and sometimes---we can find family in others when we cannot find it the biological way. Highly recommend!

Not my favorite Jane Green. This book was very predictable and I figured it out rather quickly. I would have liked to have a chapter or 2 from Mark and maybe even a little more Maggie. Overall a solid story and good book.

I was desperate to read something since ALL of our books are packed. I grabbed this off the strip cart at work. Not terrible. It was very cookie cutter for me. There was no surprise, or shock. A quick read if you are looking for a palate cleanser between heavier titles.

I was torn between giving this book 3 stars and 4 stars. On the one hand, it's fairly predictable, the characters are not terribly compelling, it hinges on an enormous and very unlikely coincidence and the ending is saccarine sweet. On the other hand, it's immensely readable - I devoured it in one sitting - and despite its flaws, it has a genuine charm.

The story is about two women living on opposite sides of the US (Sylvie and Maggie) who lead quite different lives but will get to know one another over the course of the book. The connection between them is pretty easy to guess from the outset, although it is meant to come as a surprise. Sylvie is the more likeable character initially although she's a little...wet. Maggie is highly status conscious and pretty shallow, although she develops depth as the novel proceeds. They both have teenage daughters who have struggles of their own and husbands who travel a lot for work and may or may not be unfaithful to them. The theme of the book is really about picking yourself up after your world falls apart and finding yourself in the second act of your life.

Look, it's not a great book, but as I say it's very readable and I liked it more than I would have expected. The sub-plot which deals with a teenager's eating disorder is well done and I liked the way that both women developed friendships to sustain them. If you're after something light and easy to read, you could do far worse.

The premise in this book is easy to figure out from the description on the front flap. But that isn't the story here as much as what happens to each family member after the secret is revealed. This is a very satisfying (albeit somewhat a stretch to believe)read.
