Heather Gudenkauf’s LITTLE LIES is a short novella, a prequel for the upcoming riveting LITTLE MERCIES. A story of a social worker, Ellen—a woman balancing her personal and work life as a mother of three, with a husband, and a complex career.

Having read an ARC of LITTLE MERCIES (a 5-star winner), prior to LITTLE LIES, immediately purchased the novella, as was so intrigued with the main character, Ellen, and wanted to learn more about her background.

LITTLE LIES introduces Ellen, as she is called to assist with an investigation. A child has lost his mother in a brutal murder. The body was found beneath a park statue which is similar to a murder thirteen years ago—with a little boy left behind.

Full of suspense, each can be standalone reads; however, highly recommend reading both books, as you will not be disappointed.

I love novels featuring social workers, as they are so undervalued, with huge responsibilities— making for an emotional, and gripping novel. Well done!

Heather Gudenkauf is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. This story, like her others, pulls you in and absorbs you as you become part of the scene, watching the events unfold. I cannot wait to read her next novel, Little Mercies, to follow the lives of these characters even further.

This short story was fun to read on my kindle. It's a short story mystery and starts with a death of a woman in the park where her 4 year old is found sitting near her body. The main character is a social worker who basically solves the murder mystery. Can't wait to read her full novel. Love Heather's writing style.

I've read 3 of Heather Gudenkauf's four novels. I did enjoy "Little Lies," a short story and prequel to Little Mercies. Although I enjoy her longer works more as she is the master as weaving multiple story lines and building tension which is harder to do in just 40 pages, I would recommend "Little Lies" for those readers who are unsure about whether Gudenkauf is an author they want to explore.

She deals with some tough subjects in every one of her works and "Little Lies" is no exception. It gives readers a quick peek at Gudenkauf's narrative style and can easily be read in a single sitting. And while "Little Lies" is a prequel to Little Mercies, the "Little Lies" storyline does wrap up and there is no nagging need to continue on to Little Mercies which I reviewed in September of last year.

Short novella related to Little Mercies. I would give it a solid 3.5 stars. It was a quick, interesting read....didn't really add or take anything away from Little Mercies, just a short story with the same characters.

I read this and "Little Mercies" and not sure why this is the prequel. It's an interesting and fast read.

This was an amazing novella to get a taste of what Little Mercies is. This book was truly so moving in way I do not know how to fully grasp. Ellen the FMC was written in a way I have never got a chance to read a detailed character like her. It was like you were living in her mind while she went through her personal and work life. So good for a short story!
