I’m not totally sure what to make of this book. I think I read it too slowly as was reading it with someone else across several months. It certainly has an intriguing premise and writing style, and the author has a real talent for noticing the small details of the world and the people in it.

It seems like we got so much character work and im not sure why. I was so tired of reading yet another passage about Miri’s mom. The ending was a little unsatisfying as it left a lot of things in the dark.
Like what was the eye in the deep ocean attached to?? I wanna know.
Overall it was too slow paced for my liking.

The sea imagery was beautiful, and i was only interested in Leah’s characters tbh.

I really loved this one, weird, ethereal, deep sea, oddness.

This book was SO SLOW. The prose was bloated and exhausting to read, it killed any sense of dread or tension building that I need in a horror book. Slow burns can be scary and deliver, but this book is too waterlogged with meaningless flashbacks to even get a spark going. You get no answers by the end and the books end on a whimper. Such a disappointment.

Interesting genre combo. Didn’t even realize I was close to the end of the book as I was listening. Not exactly sure how I am interpreting the different pieces of the story, but I know I was entranced.
