Considering I binged the series in three days I will continue to say it is very fast-paced and well-written. The audible narration is well-done and I did enjoy the storyline overall. For me, it is not as strong as other series I have read, but I have to remind myself this is more YA. There is definitely some "gore" to this though...there is some fairly graphic things happening in this post-apocalyptic San Francisco to both angels and humans alike. If people are a fan of apocalyptic fantasy with angels, this is a good series for them.

I LOVE THIS TRILOGY! Here, take all of my stars Susan Ee, you genius!

3.5

for a book I thought I'd never get down to, this was actually good and enjoyable.

i didn't expect to love this series as much as i did, but all books were 5 stars for me! i love the writing style of Susan Ee, it's easy to read and it was an interesting story (def not boring!). i would've loved to see more of raffe and penryn, but overall i think this is a great ending to an amazing trilogy!

I am not sure what I can say about this series that I haven't already. You have heart, a bit of gore, humor, angels, the apocalypse and Biblical plagues. What more could a girl want? From the ballet scene

Things got pretty... apocalyptic in this final instalment. The pace of this trilogy is unlike any other book I've read. The chapters are short but so much gets packed into them. This book took us to hell and back (literally) and was full of action. Penryn and Raffe were ridiculous and adorable. I savoured every cute moment as they were few and far between in World After. Dee and Dum were brilliant as always, the talent show a triumph. I was sad about Obi and even sympathetic towards Beliel, which surprised me. The ending was also a surprise, but I liked it. It was rather open-ended too. Is there definitely to be no more?

PENRYN AND RAPHAEL I NEED MOOOOORE. SO MUCH MORE. NO NO NO.

“That’s who you are— my brave, loyal, lovable Daughter of Man.”

So damn sad about the ending of this series, genuinely one of my favourites in the YA genre.

I have loved the characters, the plot, the writing.

I've said it before but as it is the final review for this series, sadly (I feel like begging for a Raffe novella somewhere because come on, the ending of the first book we get huge feels from Raffe), but yes it is one of the most successful 'angel' books series out there and I still think it needs more recognition because it really is a great trilogy.

I am going to miss these two like crazy, and if I had to say something, it would be that I wish so badly there was more we could've seen at the end because we waited FOREVER for them to be together...even though.....gosh, things really heated up in this instalment (Chapter 5 whaaaaaat yeah I was like OH GOD PENRYN WUTWUTWUT), but yeah, they were great characters and for them to finally get together, the sequence was SO good but I wish we had so much more.

“I challenge you to come find us...This is Penryn Young, Daughter of Man, Killer of Angels."

From 'World After', we pick up right where we left off. As of now, Raffe and Penryn along with Paige and Beliel and a pack of locusts make their escape from the angels after Penryn does the impossible. Regrouping, Raffe needs a doctor for his wings, Paige continues to find her way with her new body and Beliel shows Penryn Raphael's past that shows us their troubled history.

“He looks down at me with sincere eyes. 'If I were human, I would have been the first in line for you...' He looks away. 'But I'm not. I'm an archangel, and my people are in trouble. I have no choice but to try to set things straight. I can't get distracted by a Daughter of Man.”

“Just this once,’ he says almost more to himself than to me. ‘Just one moment.’
Then he leans down and kisses me.”

Poor Raffe practically tortures himself, and Penryn, indulging in glimpses and stolen moments of what they both want but could never have. Being together is not an option for either of them. The war is coming between their worlds and though Penryn can't deny the feelings she has for him, they must focus on whose side they're really on.

“It turns out that she's the only one I can trust to watch my back.”

Looking to The Resistance for help, Penryn and Paige reunite with their mother as well as Obi and the twins who have helped them from the beginning. However their last hope falls through for Raffe getting his wings sewed back on until a message comes for him and reluctant but necessary goodbyes must be said between him and Penryn.

“All I feel is the kiss. All I am is Raffe’s girl.”

“God just spoke to me. He says the End of Days begins now.”

Goodbye for now, but not for long. Kidnapped, Penryn finds herself in the midst of the angel election for the title of 'Messenger'. Now an enemy after slaughtering one of their own, the price on her head must be paid- by trial. Fighting to be the last one standing, everything shifts as Raffe intervenes and the angels frenzy over the coming of the End of Days for them without a leader. Now in the running in the election, he must gather a team and Penryn can thank Beliel for a dangerous but clever plan that could save them all, including the human race.

“There's really no time for recovery when you've just landed in hell.”

Back in Raffe's past, the two of them must gather the Watchers, Raffe's old friends and warriors, to take part in the contest. Battling through hell, Penryn and Raffe inform the forsaken, fallen angels of the times on Earth as they must travel back together to join forces against the ruthless Uriel with his glory show of true evil.

“Power is best held by the ones who don’t want it.”

A blood bath is on the horizon as the contest is decided on hunting the humans. Returning to the Resistance alone this time as Raffe must deal with the election and his team, Penryn is determined to warn them of the on-coming slaughter. But to her horror and sadness, the camp is in bad shape and a devastating passing puts the group out of form.

Penryn was never a hero, but she has proved to be more than nothing of the sorts.

The angels are coming. But she'll be ready.

“Who will guard against the guardians?”

I know I went into a lot of detail with that summary, and yup, I'm not going to go into the ending, which is so bloody awesome.

It was such a brilliant idea, it was fun, which I think has always been an element in this trilogy with Penryn's awesome personality. And yet it was really special, I think and meaningful. Perfect for the lead up to the grand finale.

“It's the loudest party the Bay Area has ever heard.”

I do want to say more but all I'll allow myself to mention is that sides are picked, humans go badass, hell is called upon and sacrifices are made.

“I have better things to do.”
“Like what?”
He opens one eye and looks at me. “Like convince a stubborn girl to admit she’s madly in love with me.”

Penryn and Raffe. They found a way although I don't know how it's going to work out. I just have a massive unanswered question: Isn't Raffe immortal?! I don't get it, I keep wondering if I'm missing something.

“And if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that trying to make someone stay with you when he doesn’t want to is a recipe for heartbreak.”

Aaanyway! I don't let it ruin my vibes, they are so brill together. I'm so happy for Penryn because I really think she is someone who deserves the person she's happiest with. We see her almost desperate for the affection in her attempts to get close to Raffe, and I felt this made her real, because as strong as she is, she's still a 17 year old girl. Even though I was like Woah Penryn, stick to being badass, don't turn like this, I actually came around to it and I understood her simple desires which were so complicated.

“OkayIwaswrong. Now let’s move on. Where do you think would be the best place for the angels to stay until they leave?”
“Whoa.” I burst out laughing. “Did you just say that you were wrong? Was that the word? Wrong?” I smile at him. “I like the sound of that coming out of your mouth. It’s lyrical. W-r-o-n-g. Wroooong. Wrrrrong. Go on, sing it with me.”

They are so good together, the banter between them is so enjoyable to read and I just crave so much more. The sacrifices made by Raphael also give us an insight into the intensity of his feelings for Penryn which he constantly had to shove aside.

“You’re a very special girl, Penryn. An amazing girl. An I-didn’t-even-know-someone-like-you-existed kind of girl. And you deserve someone who treats you like you’re the only important thing in his life because you are. Someone who plows his fields and raises pigs just for you.”

“If I were I human, I'd plow the nicest farm for you.”

So funny, so many moments that just had me going throughout this whole series. Their chemistry never wavered.

The plot was enjoyable too, as the finale of the series, I did get the feels and I was satisfied enough. There are definitely a lot of unanswered questions which kills me, but I don't want to rate the book too much on what isn't there, but what is. This trilogy has been one of my favourites since the beginning and I don't want to ruin it by being picky. When you love something so much, you just ignore all the flaw because it's like, unconditional. That's how this is for me, and I certainly was happy in a lot of ways.

“You accept me just the way I am, regardless of whether or not I even have wings. Even when I had my demon wings, you've never looked at me with pity. You've never wavered in your loyalty. That's who you are—my brave, loyal, lovable Daughter of Man.”

This note by Susan Ee was so special, these words say enough so I'm not going to say something silly to ruin it. But I want to thank her for bringing Penryn into the book world and mine.

“Dedicated to readers like Penryn who have it tough at home, who had to grow up fast due to life circumstances, and who have no idea how much potential they really have. You are being fire forged, just like Penryn. And like her, you can turn your greatest trials into your greatest strengths.”

I have never been so happy to have finished a trilogy in my life this series was just so good. I loved how the characters were further developed and I love the romance in this book it is so good new favorite OTP. I loved the story there was never a dull moment throughout this books it started with a bang and never slowed down once. This is the best conclusion to a trilogy that I have ever read I loved it so much.
