The main draw of Eddings books is that they're quick, easy reads. But this one is legitimately pretty good as well.

This was a very enjoyable reread. If Eddings finally hit his stride in the last book, this is where his writing truly shines. There were multiple moments where I laughed out loud throughout the book. Seeing Garion and Ce'Nedra finally come of age and begin to show wisdom was also immensely satisfying.
The audiobook narrator still can't quite decide what kind of accent he wants Garion to have (and manages to use THREE different pronunciations of "Riva") but I have to give him props for the narration in this book, because he had to voice a bunch of different kings and managed to give each of them accents matching the characters from their regions while also making their voices distinct from those characters.
I'm glad that this series has stood up to rereading. You do have to be patient enough to get through the first couple of books, but I think it's worth it.
