When starting this book you might ask why you should even care about these characters. That eventually went away for me somewhere in the middle. The book by itself is just OK. However, when you watch Rouge one afterwards you will be thankfull you read Catalyst. You will imedetly care for Gaylen, Lyra and Jen while others will be lost. This book, I feel, is absolutely necessary to fully enjoy Rouge One.
2.5 Too much techno babble for me so I skipped over those parts. It was interesting to hear how the Urso family got involved with the Empire's plans with them being such pacifists and to see the Empire's manipulative way of taking over more and more of the Galaxy. But overall I didn't feel like this story held much weight or importance to the overarching Star Wars storyline.

This is a very interesting and unique book. There isn’t a lot of action in Catalyst. But considering Galen is a scientist, that’s expected.
But just because the action is minimal, that doesn’t mean the drama is any less heightened. While Bloodlines offers more political drama, Catalyst does a very good job of providing a glimpse into what the eventual machinations of the Empire will be. Krennic is a very manipulative character and i enjoyed getting more time with him.

🎧 - Good Rogue One backstory for Erso’s and Krennic.
First of all, the reason I marked this as DNF is not because this story is in any way a horrible story... it’s just... idk. Its been months since I picked it up, and quite frankly, I’ll have to start from the very beginning when I pick it up again.
Because oh yes, I will be picking it up again.
4 stars for a goodly written book with a great and engaging storyline... but I retracted a star because for some reason, it didn’t hold my attention long enough for me to finish it.

This was a tough read. There was a lot of information and not a lot of action. We did get some good back story on some major players, but it took too long to develop.
Pretty good I guess. If there are better SW extended universe books out there feel free to share.
But man this makes me wish...there were chill inhabited worlds out there we could explore.

I thought this book was pretty decent. I guess I just wasn't super interested in the story, but I'm glad I read it because it adds some depth to Andor and Rogue One, and to a lesser extent Rebels. I also read it in 3 sittings, so maybe I just went too fast.
