Black Panther and Nnedi Okorafor...sold. Great story, I wasn't a huge fan of the artwork well some of it. The story was worth it. I loved the very Lovecraftian monster in the first story. Cool stuff.

Okarafor's issues, even the Venom one, are great. Had this been a 6 issue run where she could really craft a deep arc, I think it would have been a wonderful book. The "filler" Covington issues feel a bit like a corny Saturday morning cartoon in comparison.

I look foreward to Okorafor's next projects.

Summer 2019 (Hugo Award Nominee 2019 - Graphic Novel);

This one was just a bit too painful in a lot of places.

The jump-skip of scenes between two and three was hard to figure out we were at all still in the same story. The jump skin from three-four being its own story, and five returning us the mystery in 1-2 was just even more disjointing. Then, that part was wrapped up in one issue and there's a singular standalone that has nothing do with Black Panther, himself, but is instead a random, sudden Black Panther interim character who appears and has their own story without ever getting an introduction. Which left this whole graphic novel feeling like a hodgepodge collected in an out of order sequence with non-related stories.

The connections between character are brief and barely touched upon, so I don't feel like (without relying on other comics or the movies) that there was much I could speak of there. I was expecting so much from this and from know it was Nnedi Okorafor (who is, also, nominated for one of the Hugo Novella's as well), but realizing they only wrote a small section while being named the author on this main nomination makes me feel weird about it, too.

The first five issues were really good but the sixth issue didn’t feel like it really went with the rest of the story. Maybe I missed one of those story arcs that are not part of the original story? Idk what that’s called.

The first story was alright, but so much of this was clunkily and unbelievably written. Oh, well.

I don't know why, I love the Marvel film, but I have found all the Black Panther graphic novels I've tried so far really, really dull and I think this is officially me giving up on this character. (Will still try Okorafor's Shuri though as she was awesome in the film and they can't have made her dull for the comic?)

I was skeptical because I haven't really liked anything Marvel has done with BP in at least half a decade, probably longer. This book was just a delight though. It's just three short stories that aren't concerned with the fate of the universe or anything. It was so nice.

I liked this ALOT. Art work is awesome. Much prefer Nnedi writing Black Panther than Ta-Nehisi Coates.

Nnedi is an Igbo, a Nigerian ethnic group that is unique since the Igbos never had a centralized government or royalty. She tried to inject this in the worldbuilding of Wakanda and it worked out really well. I liked how T'Challa reflected that there were different types of freedom in his kingdom, including even an anarchic community. And the idea of a sentient vibranium is fantastic.

This edition apparently has two additional stories, one of which really struck me since I did not know about Ngozi, an interim Black Panther who does not wear vibranium suit but had a symbiote like Venom? and she's in a wheel chair in her daily lives? WOW. I need more of her.

(read as single issues)
A bit of an odd mini-series--the issues not written by Nnedi don't seem to fit in? Still, overall a fun read and I can't wait for Nnedi's Shuri comic!
