Beka is now in her first year as a Dog, teamed up with her partner Goodwin and her scent hound Achoo, and investigating a counterfeiting crime in a new city.

New, loveable characters are introduced and old, trustworthy ones are brought back. Overall an entertaining time!

I didn’t want to but I ended up really liking Dale. It’s kind of refreshing for a protagonist not to be with a guy at the conclusion of a book but I also think the author did that because she intends for Beka to end up with someone else.

I'd forgotten about the transgender/gay representation in this book (a surprise, to be sure, and not altogether unpleasant) as well as its abundant references to urine and feces. XP

I think the pacing and characters are very well done, and I enjoyed the story in spite of its somewhat crude vocabulary.

UPDATE:
I DO NOT recommend this book or its sequel to any transgender readers! The trans character is consistently and repeatedly misgendered, even after explaining to Beka that she identifies as female. This is never addressed or corrected.

This book was great. The writing was just as good as the previous book and the things that were good in Terrier still hold true in this book. There were several things I liked about this book, but there were also one or two concerns, but they're only about content.
For one, I really enjoyed the realness of the World of Tortall. I may have mentioned this last time, but the world has developed to almost it's full potential with Tamora Pierce and I love it! This book is about Beka chasing down some 'colemongers' (Counterfeiters- even the slang's awesome!). The reality of what would happen if a country's money stream was interfered with was very on point and I love how Beka always deals with real problems- not just fantasy world problems. It's always a pleasure to delve into a well developed world. I also loved seeing Beka in another setting within Tortall.
Secondly, the plot was very good. It kept me interested and wanting more almost the entire time. Discovering the truth wasn't easy, which it never should be in a book, so I liked that. A lot of the time, the second book in the series isn't as good as the first, but Bloodhound equaled, or even surpassed the standard Terrier had set.
As ever, I adored the characters. Beka's character was not the same as the last book; she had developed and changed but she was still the same person. I like how she developed as she would if this was real life. I still love the diversity and personality of the other characters, and how Beka was able to meet new characters that were just as interesting as the old ones. I especially loved the addition of a new animal to Beka's entourage, Achoo was perfect, and acted exactly as a dog should. So cute!
During the story there was gambling- Beka didn't do any, but others did, and sex-it doesn't mention anything explicit, just that it happened. Beka is a strong character and didn't gamble, she had a lover during the book, but we weren't given any inappropriate details. I would still recommend this book, but I always wished someone would tell me before I started reading a book if there was this sort of stuff in it, so I'm going to do anyone else who has that wish a favor and so that's why I told you.
All in all, I still LOVED this book and am looking forward to reading Mastiff-I will write a review when I've read it. Tamora Pierce has outdone herself with this one and I recommend it to people 15+ as it's very enjoyable and though there are some mature themes and references, it doesn't retract at all from the value of the book. Most people (there's always one) who loved the last book will love this one too and if anyone hasn't read Terrier I encourage to do so as it is AWESOME! (Especially if you're a fantasy/mystery lover) I hope you enjoy Bloodhound as much as I enjoyed it.

Beka takes to Port Caynn to sniff out a counterfeiter. This one brought in some new characters and scenery and a DOGGIE! Check out my full review over at Forever Young Adult.

A great sequel to Terrier. Beka is just as stubborn and takes on the Rogue of Port Caynn. No one has ever taken on a Rogue so out in the open. She perseveres even though all of Port Caynn is afer her both Dogs and Rogue. She uses her intellect and quick wits to sneak through the city undetected by herself. I also love her love life with Dale the gambling quick witted cove that finally melts her cold heart. Over all a great read and recommended.

It’s a good book that makes you worry if the main character will make it or not!
